Lol you got some really down to earth answers there. Basically quite a while ago (2500 I think) there was a man named Siddhartha Gautama - he became enlightened (understood Life, The Universe and Everything), became known as "The Buddha" and taught people what he had learned. These teaching are what the rest of Buddhism stems from. He did load of teaching but his first sermon include the ones most people think about when they think of Buddhism. These are the first Noble Truths and the Noble Eightfold Path. Four Noble Truths: 1.Suffering 2. Cause of Suffering 3. Cessation of Suffering 4. Path to the Cessation of Suffering.
