He is seen to come crouching along, to lay his force, his courage, and all his useful talents, at the feet of his master. -- Oliver Goldsmith There is no specific breed of dog called a "pit bull". The term refers to a group of dogs developed a for competitive dog fighting. Fighting Mastiffs were described by Caesar after his invasion of Britain in 55 BC and various types were developed in ancient Rome, China and Japan. The American Pit bull Terrier... Feared by most... Whats behind the name? Ignorance.. Most "pit bull attacks" are not actually Attacks by American pit bull terriers, but attacks by MIXED Breeds, or other dogs who look similar.. If you are gunna fear somthing fear.... PEOPLE!!! FACT: A chihuahua, pomeranian, toy poodle, or lhasa apso is more likely to bite a child then ANY Bully Breed.. Rottweilers, German Shepherds, Great Danes, Doberman Pinschers, also evoke fear in the general public... BUT they arnt all over the news... WHY? It is important to note that dog attacks are extremely rare. In the US thousands of times more numbers of people are injured by guns, accidents and fire than have ever been attacked by dogs. Many times more children are killed by their caretakers in a year than have ever been killed by dog attacks. Over 80% of dog bites occur when the dog is with his owner or ON his owner's property.. Staffordshire Bull Terrier, and the infamous Bull Terrier are two breeds that were also bred to "pit fight"... Yet, all the blame still sit on the American Pit Bull Terrier.. Humm... When groups of dogs are labeled as unsafe by the press, people become fearful of their own pets, and throw their dog into a shelter.... Animal shelters have a difficult time finding new homes for pitty breeds because they are not willing to place the dogs with people looking for "guard" dogs. .... . for good reason.. When a dog is tormented for so long... well... You can only imagine, O' wait you dont have too..... These dogs need our HELP!... Not our HATE!.... Lemme help you understand a lil more: (not for the faint of heart) Please visit this site: http://www.pitbullproblem.tk/ and view the video AND: http://www.deviantart.com/view/11337184/ All we can do is hope that people just stop being so cruel.
It's so true...it's gotten to the point in my city where pit bulls are completely banned! It's so wrong that owners are forced to give up the dog or move...
Now you've done it--an excuse to show off my cutie pie! (She's 100% pitbull/amstaff/whatever-they-call-it rescued from an abusive breeder. He used to beat her up to make her "mean", but it didn't work.) Unfortunately, people are swayed by Fox News rather than trusting their own good sense. I wish the breed-banners would take the time to actually meet these dogs. Alas, such is the curse of ignorance...
ohw that's the cutest thing ever And didn't we have the whole 'mean dog vs breed' discussion here before? There was a link to a video thingie with it...
AWW what a sweet face.. Did you guys view both videos?? I hope to one day rescue a pitty pup and raise him right.. my dad is one of the ignorant people out there that despise the breed.. thats what inspired me to make this post..
Ha, My boyfriend and I watched my sisters Boxer this past weekend, and people were really weird when we walked by them. I know it's because they think he's a pitbull, which is just ridicules on it's own. But the fact that people obviously don't know what the "Pittbull" they're so afraid of looks like, so much so that they could confuse it with a Boxer.. Is just insane.
Awwww SpaceDuck...your dog is so adorable. I just want to hug her. I have a pit mix that I rescued....he was nearly starved to death when I got him,but now he's fine. He's the sweetest, most humble dog you would ever meet.
I work in a kennel..and I have to say,the pits are some of my favorites I'm not phobic of many bully dogs. Dobie's make me kin of iffy, though. Pitty dogs = <3
The friendly look on his face surprised me...I laughed and almost spit out my oatmeal. So cute! I believe that dogs are like people in that 99% of adult problems can be routed back to traumatic experiences/abuse/lack of proper training during childhood. The sweetest dog I've encountered was a pure white (almost albino-like) pit bull terrier. You could literally hold a piece of food between your front top & bottom teeth and he would gently nibble it out; not a mean bone in his body. So cute...I miss him.
I have to agree that small breeds are often ill tempered lil shits (bratdogs) but they dont have the ability to attack and kill like larger breeds and unfortunately due to humans, some breeds have been exploited and when they do somehting it makes the news. There are far too many irresponsible pet (dog in this case) owners and instead of banning a breed maybe they oughta make the owner go to a training class...how to be a decent, caring and attentive owner... and make that renewable every few yrs like rabies shots!
here`s our dog it`s a dog the bordeaux and she 3 years now all people in the street fear her but she only like to play if she sees a little dog she wiggles her tale and want to play but people react on her if she gonna eat their dog:$ people are sometimes sooooo stupid......
Your dog is beautiful! When my shih tzu was a 5 lb. puppy, I took her into my favorite pet store (where the employees were allowed to bring their pets), and one of the girls there had a Bordeaux, a year old male, and my doggie LOVED him...I put my puppy down, and the two of them started to play. That big dog was as gentle as a bunny rabbit, and it was fun to watch them together. If I were to get a big dog someday, I might consider a Bordeaux based on that experience. That doggie boy in the pet store was a gentle giant for sure...
thanks!! i love my dog your experience was a very good one,the bordeaux-dog is very kind and gentle dog very sweet with childeren and not agressive at all if you like a big dog, this the one we have a female but the male-dogs are getting even bigger!!
We had like 5 attacks in a month and a half in my town a while ago, and there is actually a law now that you can't have pet "Pit Bulls" anymore, but you can keep those who have been in your home before the law was made... Stupid, but... 2 kids died and 3 severely injured.. I dunno.
I have a red nose and she is the sweetest dog I have ever had. She is very protective, but she would never hurt anyone unless they were trying to hurt me. I have my 1 yr old nephew living with me and that baby gives her hell. He's always messing with he and she will just lay there and occasionally lick him.
in the netherlands you cannot have pitbulls any more, there is also a law but i think it`s the people who make the dogs agressive
