god damn the person who thought of this stupid idea. if america's people get drafted, mr howard (our fucked up PM) will follow up Bush's arse and draft our people! i dont know why they want to do this. cant they just pull out and leave it? they are only thinking of drafting because of all the soldiers being killed? is that right? do you know why i dont know about this stupid shit.... because no one has told me... because all the people i have asked dont know themselves, all we have been told is about who has been bombed this week and who is going to go to be shipped off this week and what ideas they have next to get back at iraq HAHAHA dumb people! i didnt even know what was going on september 11 mum was crying watching the tv and im looking at her going WTF is her prob!! i dont know!! if anyone has anything to add or even tell me what the "war" is about ill be happy to finally know what im talking about!
The wars about oil. Bush and whoever needs oil and they have power, and a little propaganda is all it took to make everybody hate Saddam, even though were not any better, because people are stupid. Then some extremists attacked us, and Bush made up his "weapons of mass distruction" story, and put us in Iraq. If they started a draft then they could have complete controll of that area, and whatnot.
Bush is too savvy to do that to his party. And the generals really don't want their army full of disgruntled potheads and mamas boys. Enlistment is down a little bit, but not critically. The upcoming recession will also increase the number of volunteers.
yah, the armed forces should be for poor people as an oppurtunity to get out of the ghetto and not people who don't need the army for educational oppurtunities... its silly for the rest of us to serve in the military
Theres no possibility of a draft here. I dunno what Australia is doing, but since you have about 1,000 troops there now, theres not too much of a need for you to come up with people.
Sorry to rain on the parade, but yes there is a possibility of a draft. In fact, in a way there already has been one. The use of the National Guard in the War on Iraq has basically all the characteristics of a draft. Never before in our history has the National Guard been used for this purpose. It was well known during the Vietnamese War, joining the National Guard was a ruse used to avoid serving in 'Nam. Why do you think that yellow striped little bastard we call a president hid out there during the war. The primary function of the Guard has always been to help on DOMESTIC emergencies that occur within the states. Occasionally outside of the country, but not in wartime situations. I'm sure part of the reponsibilities include wartime functions in the case of a national emergency, but the Iraqi War hardly classifies as a national emergency. I have two friends and a nephew currently serving in Iraq with the Guard. As stated previously, the chances of a draft being instituted for the Iraq War is remote, but people are failing to take into account that if a trouble spot in the world erupts, we will have no choice but to reinstitute the draft. Military has already stated that our forces worldwide are stretched to the absolute limit. With all the saber rattling occurring between the US and North Korea, the possibility of this erupting into war is a very real possibility. North Korea has testfired missles over the mainland of Japan, in preparation of developing nuclear missles capable of reaching the mainland of the US. Most people don't realize, but a treaty ending the Korean War was never signed. While we don't still consider ourselves in a state of war with North Korea, the North Koreans do not feel the same.
Molly, Molly, Molly, So you think poor people should serve in the military for educational opportunities so middle class and upper class people won't have to serve in the military. Hmmm. The poor can sacrifice their lives so the middle class and upper class can maintain their standards of living. How medieval of you! Thank you very much!! Maybe we can force the poor to serve during war so people with more money are sure not to have to risk their lives. HMMMMMM.... I grew up poor and members of my family did serve in the military for the educational opportunities it provided. Fortunately, I was educated without the benefit of the military. One of the things I came across in my educational travels was the concept of shared responsibility of citizens in the defense of the homeland. The rich and poor share in this responsibility alike. It's actually an ancient concept. Can't remember the name (I would have to look it up again), but in the early history of Rome, there was a famous Roman General, who in civilian life was a common farmer. A threat came to Rome, the man dropped the plowshare and led the Roman legions to glorious victory against the heathen threat. Did he come back to Rome to enjoy the sure wealth and acclaim of this great victory that he commanded? No. he picked up the plowshare to continue his life as the common, anonymous farmer. This is how great empires and countries are made. Molly, continue your education so you don't have to become one of those nameless citizens who sacrifices their lives so the rest of us don't have to. Might want to rethink that idea of educating the poor. They are liable to find out how badly they are getting screwed over!
If North Korea nukes us then we blow up. We already have missiles that can hit Russia. We have tons of missile silos.
The first act of war won't be North Korea launching nuclear missles at us. The start of the war will be when North Korea launches a conventional attack across the South Korea border. North Korea considers North and South Korea as one country. Military analysis has determined that millions will die in the initial assault. We do not have enough troops stationed in South Korea to stop an initial assault. The nuke option would factor in, in an extended war, which this would turn out to be. Who knows which side China will weigh in on. In the first Korean War the Chinese fought on the North Korean side. We could in theory win a nuclear war with them, but in reality if it escalates to that, no one wins.
Thats world war 3 right there. Can you all wait like 15 years or so, give me to pick out a country I like and move there?
1. your 14.. 2. you cant just "move to canada", specially if there is a draft, the borders are already as guarded as they ever have been...the US is starting to require passportsto cross the border because they are afraid of terrorists from cadna, it wont be easy dummy...this isnt the 60's back when our countries were friendly enough to place military bases on our soil... 3. i dont know if its through NAFTA or not, but the US and Canada have an extridiction treaty which means that if the RCMP catch you in canada they have to send you home to your mommy to got to jail unless you face the death penalty.. 4. no government, in this day and age, is dumb enough to instate a draft where there has not been one previously [ie countries such as the US, Britain, and the like] it would spell political disaster...the governments currently involved in the war would most likely pull out 100% and let chaos ensue in the middle east before instating a draft
