I just woke up and saw this story on yahoo's news website:

    http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20050803/hl_nm/health_parkinsons_dc

Apparently scientists have discovered that MDMA is the most effective treatment for the effects of Parkinsons in laboratory mice. Other amphetamines have shown to be effective as well. The only problem I'm having with this is that the scientists are quoted as saying that amphetamines are illegal, as well as MDMA, so there is a chance that a dopamine increasing medication along with amphetamines may significantly improve the condition of those suffering from Parkinsons. Now I've got a bottle of pills sitting right in front of me, and on the label, it reads " AMPHETAMINE SALTS 10 MG TABBRR."

So, how come I just went and got a bottle of amphetamines legally from a pharmacy like three days ago? To their credit, the scientists are also quoted as saying amphetamine-like drugs, similar to medication given to children suffering from ADD, may prove to be effective as well. I dunno if this is just shitty journalism or if adderall (I take the generic brand) simply is not the right type of amphetamine for treatment, but I hope the poor Parkinsons patients don't have to wait for some kinda new pill to be created with amphetamines and dopamine-increasing elements to it. I mean, yeah... if it works then by all means go for it, but if we can simply work with a combo of two types of pills we already have developed, then I hope doctors don't keep people waiting... people who could benefit from these experimental studies... I mean damn.... we've been looking for something to work forever as far as Parkinsons treatment goes, and it just seems a crime to withold anything that has the potential to improve these patient's quality of life... even for a moment.

I hope they further the studies and I hope that the damn government will back the fuck down and realize the potential that a few illegal drugs have for some people. For instance, last night I was cleaning my dorm room and I found little pieces of pot I dropped on my desk and in the drawer from Spring semester. I have a lot of problems with my bones because I have seriously worked my ass off doing landscaping and home restoration projects since I was 12... mostly working on restoring old hardwood floors in antebellum Southern homes. I've been treated for arthritis before, and I also took some calcium supplements that seemed to help a bit for a while, but even my chiropractor told me that I really did some damage to my back by doing that kind of work at such a young age. He even showed me a computer image of an ideal spine, and then he showed me mine. My spine looks like a backwards "S" , but not in the right places. Well, I collected all the lil' bits I found as I cleaned, and I have enough for just 4 hits last night. Apparently I dropped some good pot because my back pain was gone within 3-5 mins... not just reduced like my arthritis meds do on a good day, but this pain was completely GONE! I couldn't help but think, "Man... maybe I should just tell my family to give me money for pot instead of spending money on everything else..."

I'm serious man... when I smoked pot like 1-3 times a day at the most, I was fine... no ADD... grades were good... no back pain or headaches, no OCD, and no anxiety.... I could also sleep like a little baby whenever I wanted! Then I started smoking too much because the school moved me in with the guy who just so happened to also be my dealer. I got busted one day by the school cops, so naturally I got a lil' paranoid and never thought I'd smoke again... Then I went to Amsterdam. Nuff said. Anyways, now I'm going from spending like $100 a month on pot to a grand total of:
    $11.13 for adderall
    $27.89 for paxil
    $90.(ish) for ambien
    $30.(ish) for bextra
$8.49 for diphenhydramine (benadryl instead of ambien, which rarely works)

I have no idea what that all adds up to, and I'm too lazy to attempt doing the math, but I know it's a shitload more than pot ever was... I don't allow myself to use pot recreationally anymore, however, and you guys can believe that or not. For me, pot is a medicine. I believe that it's quite possible to take too much and to abuse it like any other medicine, but at least pot can take care of multiple problems that tend to come in a very similar combination to my own. How many people out there take the exact same meds I do every day? Tons! Could they all be helped like me if pot was legalized? I can't really say, but I believe it's worth a shot... especially if the legal meds aren't working that well, and also if it saves money... If pot was legal there's a good chance it would be much cheaper, so perhaps a corporation needs to start building a medical marijuana empire and pay off congress to legalize pot. NORML could start a corporation and Tommy Chong could be the CEO! That'd be one corporation I doubt we'd ever see a single damn hippie protest... unless they were broke or something... :) Oh well... I'm gonna quit ramblin' now and go pack...
    Peace!

I also have neuromuscular disorder similar to MS and I find when I take really good E it helps me walk and talk better than without. Hope that someday it will be a realization, the drugs I'm on now only prolong agony but it is the best meds they can give me.

I would love to smoke herb for some of the pain but my lungs are so weak they can't handle the smoke.

Have you tried cooking with herb instead of smoking it? Won't hurt your lungs at all, and it kills the pain more then smoking does. I've made everything from breakfast muffins to salad dressings......

Cooking with herb is great! I've been known to take little crystaline bud and hold it under my mouth like rednecks do with their dip, but with instead of spitting all the time, i just kinda let it chill under my tongue and swallow as I normally do... then after the flavor's gone i just swall the nug.... sometimes just holding a nug sublingually seems to be more effective than smoking, but it varries from strain to strain. I still like smokin' herb just fine tho!
