One of my biggest fears is that I will never expierence what my sister did. Because of my age, parents, money... I only made it to 7 phish shows. I love Phish and listen to them all the time. I have about 250 discs of Phish. My sister (whom im very very close to) went to alot of shows and had the time of her life. Im worried that their wont be any band like that. Its so frustrating to learn the culture of a band and have them depart after only a expierenceing a couple shows. Its like when you want somthing for a really long time, like a type of food or a new bike, then you get it and your parents take it away. Damn, im wearing a phish T right now. I get sad all the time thinking about Phish. I really hope theres a big touring jamband that I get to see and follow.

Well... I've never been on my favorite band's concert... Not in this life. :( I was born 17 years after they had made their last album.

yea, i do myself a disservice by loving classic rock. led zeppelin broke up 25 years ago, and hendrix has been dead for 35. half of the who is dead, and black sabbath isn't coming back together anytime soon. i really don't want to listen to modern day stuff.

i did see robert plant in vegas 2 weeks ago, but that's it.

I think Umphreys has a shot and Mule is quite awesome and has a good following. moe. should be "bigger" then they are, Ratdog has a big following, but on the scale of Phish, I don't know if anyone will rival that type of mass devotion, I hope so!

Yes, I think Umphrey's McGee has the talent to go quite far, but keep in mind it took many, many years for Phish to build their popularity.

And I'm optimistic Phish will be back in some form, someday, whatever they might say now.

Hey, man, I havn't been to a SINGLE Phish show, and there's no way in hell I could afford to go to more then a few anyway. Consider yourself LUCKY for going to seven shows.

I saw string cheese incident and lemme tell you, they have the talent to equal phish..maybe surpass them..but who knows. and yah, umphreys mcgee too.

there will ALWAYS be jam bands...you just have to shift through the fodder and all the commercial junk a little harder as the years pass. I exert more energy each year finding good music. remember some of the best music is underground or under rated or obscure. you just need to find it and spread the word.

Ok, I think the desire to see a band simply because its touring is off... One should see a band because of what they DO not how the audience is created.
SCI had their shot. Like LoS, they let it go by.
Had they been at a point with a definitive sound, not the BG one day/ trance the next spot they were in, they would have bee the big one of the early 21st century.
Panic? in the south they get the backing, but outside of that, they are limited in appeal.
Umphrey's? lots of fun. but that's all. They will probably have a respectable theater level touring capacity (after this summer) and be invited to festivals.
Mule? dunno. I think the rock crowd will catch on to them at some point. I haven't seen them with "the new guy".

New Monsoon has a chance to break out, if they don't have a who are? we crisis (please, please, please)

I think jam as a genre needs a breather. I think some new blend will happen and put some fresh life into it.

I wait for the days that the locals get that big. I 've seen two break out of here so far, and I have hope for Shanti Groove and KanNal.

I know that it isnt good to see a band based on the audience, becuase thats were the phish scene went downhill. alot of people went because of the drugs. but what im looking for is more than music. of course i would have to enjoy the music to follow a band. But I love the atmosphere, the cultre, the good vibes...i enjoy more than just music at a show.

well, yeah, a scene is great, but don't go JUST for the scene, because as you say, that's what harms them. Happened to the Dead (which is how Phish became the place to be in 92-94) Phish and SCI a couple years ago with the Hep A problem.
If you are already pulled to the music that inspires heads, whatever you find will be a community rather than an audience.
Just remember to give as well as recieve. It has to flow!
Crawl on Jambase and try some music. Pay attention to Orsino2's posts: he is a young guy who is on top of the music bit...wide range of likes.

Aside from Phish what do you like musically?
