The way I do it is I thread it through the roots and tie it, then just wrap it around, depending on how I want it. If I want the entire thing covered, then just go around and around, and push it together as you go down. If I want just a little bit for decoration, then I'll make a crisscross pattern, and not push the thread together. If that confuses you, I'll draw a picture. With my super sweet paint skills. Yes, I'm secretly hoping you'll say you want a picture. ^_^

    Hey

They really are purple for decoration rather than knotting 9though it may knott at the root quite well as mine has.)

its just the same as the hair braids you get people to give you on the street.

Ues embroidery thread, about 5 times longer than you want the wrap to be i'd say. (or hemp or wool etc etc) if you used a few strands of different colours it looks quite cool.

fold the thread over so you have a loop now at one end of the thread.

Push that loop through the root of your dready so at the top of your dread you now have a loop sticking out one side of the dread and two bits of thread (or double the amount you already had) the other.

Take the two bits of thread and push them through the loop and pull tight. this should(will!) hold it into your dread.

then take ONE of those bits and wrap it around and around the dread. if you know how you to macrame then you can also to macrame knotts around the dread.

if your useing more than one colour then wrap for about 1 and a half cm then pull a different colour out and put the bit you were previously wrapping with into the middle as you now wrap with the next thread.

keep going untill you have the length you want. you can keep wrapping off of the end of the dread if you have thread still dangling down. if you do it about an inch longer (or more if you want) than the dread then take all the bitts of thread and tie them in a knott (as tight to the wrap as you can.. infact it works better if your actuaslly knotting the wrap rather than the loose threads)

HERE you can put beads omn if you wish by just threading all the bits of thread through the center of the bead and knotting (or adding them the way you do with macrame)

    hope thats helped!!

Hey, in my experience of wrapping (which is not very much, but none the less), i've found that wrapping your dreads actually incourages them to tighten... because the ones i've left in for two weeks and taken out feel a lot tigher than they did, mainly at the top end.. but deffinatly its helped in some ways.. plus it looks awesome! take a look at mine!

just aquick note.. doing whats called a speed wrap ..meanning just wrapping round & round with no knotting..will cause em to just fall apart in no time.. howevr doing macrame type stuff which is really easy & adds a decorative style to it will make it last even years.. i had 1 hemp wrap that lasted 4 or 5 years.. ofcourse dong the knotted style will take longer to put in..but isnt it worth it when it lasts 10-20 times longer?
