Well I fianlly got my settlement from a car accident I was in. So I decided to buy a serger and a bunch of fabric with it. So I went out and got a great deal on a BabyLoc serger. It doesn't Jet Thread, but It seemed easy enough to thread when we looked at it in the store. I havn't actually played with it yet since I had to wash all the fabric. Heh. I do have a question about patchwork though.... When you guys do patchwork in your dresses and tops, what kind of seam allowance do you leave? Is it the traditional 1/4" like you do in quilting or is it larger? Just wanting some advice before I start my first project.
I personally straight stitch with my sewing machine at 1/2" seam allowance. Then I serge it and there is a nice 1/4" between the straight stitch and the inside edge of the serging. It gives the item more room for wear and tear
Also: If you need to change threads on your serger...use the tie on method...as it will save you alot of time and frustration
you can cut the old thread spools off about 6" off the spool, then put your new spools on, and tie 2 tight little knots. Then press down on the foot after all four are tied on to the new ones...and serge for a few inches to make sure all the knots have passed through..and Voila! you are rethreaded
