What's so normal about life nowadays in the US? Peaceful people go to prison for possessing plant matter. I mean, jail is a harsh place, and its not like pot causes violent behavior - its certainly not worse than alcohol! Everyone has to have a car, which runs on gasoline, which destroys the environment. What kind of insanity is present in our elected officals that they do not pursue alternative energy? People are shocked when they hear about mass murderers on the teevee news, but the war in Iraq kills so many people its insane, and most people seem unphased by this fact. Not to mention poverty in third world countries continues, with people dying from disease and starvation, but people in our country continue on with their lives as normal, even when faced with poverty in the form of homeless people. They can't even be moved by some street living person in front of them, instead that person becomes an irritation. Yet, there is a movement to the religious right. Oh, and let's not forget there are nuclear bombs, and terrorists. Yet most people still aren't moved by these things enough to make a statement outside of the 'normal' way of life. A lot of US citizens keep their illusion of this life being normal by imitating each other on a mass scale: get up early on weekdays, get your dose of the news, eat breakfast, drink coffee, go to work, come home, eat dinner, watch more news, maybe some sports, 'prime time' teevee. Sometimes they have some 'fun' to break the monotony: go to a sports game, go to a bar, go to the movies, read a bestseller... But not many really go much further than that. Why? It's all very strange to me, that SO many people are in such a robotic state of affairs. It seemed like we were on the right track to break out of this illusionary 'normality' back in the 60's, but I guess too many people had a xenophobic reaction to what happened then. I know a lot of people were changed for the better by this, but it seems nowadays things are being forced back into the same old rut. It's scary to live in a world like this, where so many people cling to these illusions that the world is okay. Not only that, but a lot of people have strange adverse reactions to anything that looks different from the norm. What the heck is xenophobia anyway? Why do people have to follow some common ideal of what is acceptible, when that ideal is so... abnormal?
You are right, but why are you so bothered by it? Do something to change it if you want, otherwise just live your life. You complain but its better than you realise my friend.
I have to admit, the way things are run these days buggs me too. too many to mention. in fact, im gonna start a new thread about that now.
Just because everybody does not share your ideals and you don't see daily parades denouncing this or that.. does not mean people do not 'care' In fact imho americans over burden themselves with 'careing'. alternative energy source us government usaid http://usinfo.state.gov/eur/Archive/2005/Feb/18-538980.html http://www.ngo.org/index2.htm And thats from a few minutes of looking.. Open your eyes a bit more..
Ah youre right, I must not be seeing the fabulous job the US government is doing with our oil problems and the world's poverty. Why, they're almost nonexistant! And I never said anything about caring. What I said is most americans seem to be totally blind to homeless people, which I witness on a daily basis, and that many seem to overlook the fact that we are killing so many Iraqis. My eyes are open, my friend, and what I see is a bunch of human beings living in an artifical world while people die in ghettos and in remote countries out of view from poverty. Since it seems you did not really pay that much attention to what I was trying to say before bringing your just hand of criticism down upon it, I will put it in a nutshell: Many live these robotic lives, unseeing what is really going on around us, and within our own lives.
isnt it totaly weird to be normal? and totaly normal to be weird? thats just how i've always seen it i mean i look at all the people around me living the so called normal robotic life , and i just cant help thinking how weird it must be to just exist for the sake of existing..work 1/2 the time theyre awake just for the right to live to work another day.. but then i look at the people who the so called normal people call weird..& what are they doing? living..loveing, caring..being themselves..being indivuduals instead of carbon coppies of everyone else.. so please..define for me..what is normal & what is weird?
Do you really want someone else to define that for you, soaringeagle? I got life: yeah I kinda figured it might be that way, as people are people no matter where you are, but I can't speak for much outside of the US, only having been in Mexico and Ireland for short periods of time.
MMM it was just how pesimistic and 'blind' you semed to certain things that goverment and people do. It semed seemed like your glass was half empty . No, the 'oil problem' is with us still obviously. Your goverment is not idlly sitting on its hands like you seemed to suggest. Many innocent iraqis are dying..generaly at the hands of those supposedly fighting for them.. Not that i to am blind to the realities of certain thing you highlight... I did appreciate what you were saying, i just did not agree with it. No you did not mention 'not careing' you imho did not have to it was seeping through your post.
I'm not blind to the flip side of the coin, but that doesn't mean I see it in a positive light either. What my government is currently doing to pursue energy sources other than fuel seems mostly to be a token effort. I know plenty of conservative folks too - including relatives - and I know them well enough that they mean well and try to be decent people, but at the same time they have tendencies that aren't very decent, like racist ideas and putting money and materialism over compassion and empathy. You have every right to your own opinion, but I also have a right to speak my mind when I see something is wrong. In any case, text doesn't convey nuances of emotion that well, and perhaps when you read it, you assumed I was trying to knock things in some manner. I can see how it might be interpreted that way, because I was very down at the time of writing it, and was simply trying to achieve a catharsis for what I was feeling, not trying to preach about everyone being evil or anything. Sometimes, when you are just trying to express an idea, you don't express it that clearly, and I guess people take it the wrong way.
All people what ever their political/social persausion are guilty. I am a mixed race vegeterian of varying political persausions, who recycles (sometimes)... I also have a big heart (not a bleeding one though ..if you know what i mean) and not a lot of time for materialism (because i am poor) . I understand your point though. Well actually i was not trying to be a complete jackass, failed a bit i think
Ehh, I wouldn't worry about it. Like I said, text doesn't convey nuances very well, so I think people tend to interpret it according to whatever color sunglasses their brain is wearing at the time. And yeah, everyone is guilty, if you want to look at it in the western way, or you could see it as everyone is growing, and has growing pains. I just worry sometimes that some people are destroyed by their own growing pains. Becoming 'evil' so to speak, irredeemable. I'm not speaking of you, in case your brain sunglasses read it that way.
As long as what I do during my work hours helps out the rest of the world I can go home at the end of the day and be at peace and sane. I work with the homeless and low income and honestly the pay leaves me a step away from homeless myself. There's alot of good that can be done from within the box.
Well i remove people from debt.. this is at least 100 brownie points for me. ..and i jumped on you like a bat out of hell...:& No i won't be taking it personal , don't worry .
Hey... I agree that it sucks. I'm not going to go on a rant about what I see wrong with the world, because those are my opinions. However, I don't think there is any denying that there is some fucked up happenings in the world of today. I don't like it either, but I try not to let it get to me. You don't like how we give all our money up to corporations? then don't give your money up to corporations. you don't have to... but yeah... sometimes it's just good to let it all out about how fucked up things are.
Come on, man....this just depresses me. When I look around me and look at all the people wrapped up in fufilling the "american dream", it makes me wonder if they are truely happy with their lives.
ofcourse they are, most of them because they are oblivious to what goes on around them or they don't give a fuck most of them only care about themselves and getting what they want its an ignorance poor deserve to be poor different people need to be controled and so on
