I am really interested in seeing some good movies about homosexuality, movies that are gay romances I guess, or anything else about homosexuality (books as well). Do any of you know of good movies or books to check out? I've heard that Presque Rien, or Come Undone, is a great movie, and I've read good reviews. My boyfriend- the one who is back in Germany now- suggested this movie. Any of you seen this? Cheers, Thanks Dylan
Books: Lost Souls? by Poppy Z Brite Drawing Blood by Poppy Z Brite Programs/Films: Fingersmith (lesbian) Billy Elliot touches on the subject a bit Queer As Folk (of course)
Most large bookstores have at least a shelf devoted to gay/lesbian topics. Check out your local library and see what appeals to you.
One of my all time favorite movies of any genre (I really hate that word--it sounds so pompous) is "The Sum of Us". It stars a young Russell Crowe as a gay man living at home with his dad. It's a quiet movie about the sweet relationship between father and son. The other movie I'd reccommend is "Love! Valour! Compassion!" which is about a group of gay friends and their relationships with each other. It's also very sweet.
good old maurice. really if u like literature, any thing by e m forster is to be recommended. in the same vein, sorta, try the filum 'another country'. that's an interesting love story. i liked the movie 'looking 4 forrester' i think it was called (with sean connery) about an older man-younger man relationship. also books by armistead maupin and the tales of the city series is pretty good 2. 'head on' the australian film about a nice greek boy living in the hellenistic closet is pretty bloody good but it's 18+. and of course, don't 4get oscar!
Most gay movies I have seen are terrible. I have seen two good ones. . . Beautiful Thing, and Bad Education. I imagine there are several called "Bad Education". This one is spanish, with subtitles. It is good.
A Home at the end of the World has homosexuality in it. It's a great movie, takes place around the 60's and 70's too. It has Colin Farrel in it, he's pretty hot and he has some nude like scenes in it too. Good books, "City of Night" by John Rechy. It's about the dark world of male prostitution, I personally could not drop this book, it's based on the author's life, and you meet very interesting characters through out the book. A fav of mine. Another one I like is called "The World of Normal Boys" by K. M. Soehnlein. Here's a link that tells you more about this one. http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/1575666618/102-7665299-8679329?v=glance
Oh do you like poetry? The movie, 'Total Eclipse' is about A. Rimbaud and Paul Verlaine's relationship. Very dramatic!
it wasn't a bad movie that. i liked seeing leo di cap without his trousers on. the portrayal of arthur rimbaud was unexpectedly good i thought. he plumbed more depths than the titanic! danielle_niki: those two books u recommended look good btw esp the city of night one. thanks 4 that.
i tell u another of my fave 'gay' movies: suddenly last summer... its v old, fifty years or so and in b&w, but it's a beauty! stars elizabeth taylor and montgomerty clift in a screenplay written by two of my alltime favourite poofters tennesee williams and gore vidal. this is back in the days when the 'h' word was forbidden and all references to gayness had to be either subliminal or metaphorical. the way they do it here is wondrous.
