Just wondering about the whole question of Lilith in the bible... I didn't learn about her until I was much older, and I was raised Catholic. I was hoping to learn what the Catholic or Christian thinking is towards Lilith, who is the supposed first woman created before Eve...
yea..Lilith, I talked about her in a class I took called Male, Female and Religion. Many Christians (Catholic, Protestant or otherwise) don't usually mention her. It's a cool idea. peace
Heres some sites: http://www.hranajanto.com/goddessgallery/lilith.html http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lilith
The Bible doesn't mention anything about anyone named Lilith. Its just another example of a man made tradition that has no Biblical basis.
Not biblical (though there is one passage that mentions Lilith), but it's related. Sort of like the popular side of the religion, besides what the scribes and priests were telling them.
The Bible doesn't mention Lilith. The myth of Lilith was probably mentioned in the Kaballa or the like. That's my best guess. *checks out BTM'S links now.*
I have learned something new. The Hebrew word Lillith is indeed in the Bible. See Isaiah 34:14. peace
:H Is this a typo? Isaiah 34:14 is a prophecy about Edom. "The wild animals of the desert will mingle there with wolves and hyenas. Their howls will fill the night. There the night monsters will scream at each other and the demons will come there to rest." Taken from The Living Bible. NEV,RSV and several other translations are pretty similiar but have no mention of anyone named Lillith in this passage. Genesis doesn't mention anyone named Lillith either.
No, no, what Molly there meant was the Hebrew version of the Bible, Lilith is mentioned there, meaning an owl.
I thought Lilith was a Jewish legend or something...anyway, I think it's a fascinating idea that is of no use at all.
I've been googling Lilith for a while, so I think I've learned about as much as I can find online... whether or not Lilith is an actual being that preceeds Eve, it's still quite an interesting legend. I wish I was taught more of this while in religion class.
