im just wondering bc at my junior high detention ment spending your lunch hour staring at a wall in a classroom with a teacher on duty. but at my high school, they made you do something physical, like clean the lost and found out or, and i had to do this, shine the extra school shoes they had if someone didnt wear proper ones....ewww that was the worst...... for the amount of classes i skipped, i only served 1 detention! amazing...
I've only had one detention in my life, and I didn't have to do shit during it. All I did was some schoolwork. I did have a teacher supervising me during my detention.
herm.... in middle school, we would get recess detention where we had to go help the janitor, with some of my good ol' friends. as it turned out, we ended up having more fun there, but the janitor didnt like us too much, so we went to the principals office instead to copy the peace pledge 50 or so times. then we had to redo it, because each of us would miss one insignificant word, or make a grammar error. ahh, good ol' catholic school. in high school, i had to stay after to make up a test i missed after skipping and going to 2nd lunch, if it wasnt a test day, i probably wouldnt have gotten caught. and i had in school suspension twice for walking out of class early, didnt think the teacher would notice.
Detention (or as they now call it in my school "retention"...they changed the phrasing last year) is served in a classroom after school for 45 minutes with a supervising teacher (who loves me, by the way)... and one must write an essay (300 words or some crap like that), discussing why one got the retention. No one reads the essays, and if the teacher likes you, she'll let you skip the retention...
at my first middle school it was like a 3:00 to 5:30 studdy hall at my second middle school it was a clean up thing at my third middle school it was the same as the first one now in high school its a fun do wha ever you want thing
i used to get in school suspension which is where you sit in a small grey room all day and do worksheets................
"i used to get in school suspension which is where you sit in a small grey room all day and do worksheets................" Yep. And the ISS supervisors are always the best. We had Ms. Burke, a black woman. Think Wanda Sykes, in a way. We loved Ms. Burke. But the best was the janitorial work. Because the janitors were cool as shit at my school. When we got in trouble, we would ask for it. Miss a class or two and hang out with a couple janitors, who curse (in middle school, a school employee cursing was the best thing since pretending we knew what a hand job was) and smoke on school grounds, not giving a shit? Fuck yeah.
The punishment was and still is determined by the teacher/principal. Who ever is holding whatever against you. The principal made you site in the "house commens" and just be quiet and do homework. Other teachers make you just sit or do productive things. All I really know is that detentions suck. They usually take place and hour after school unless you do something really bad but not bad enough for suspension you get an extended which is 2 hours after school.
In grade 5 I beleive, I didnt want to go to class anymore so I spent what seemed like a few weeks in a closet in the office.
i never had detention.... well exept for for that one time I crashed my grade 10 math teachers brand new pick up truck into the floor hoist of the auto shop. teachers pet..nooo. i was more like my math teachers prison bitch for the rest of the year. school insurance covered it all, but he never let me forget. If i sneezed too loud id get a detention, and hed make me do things like cleen the toilets in the boys washroom. And the guys where really desgusting in my school. some fuck nut left a shit on top of toilette seat cover one day. guess who had to cleen it up.
they tide us to a conveyor belt underneath a merry go round, and we were forced to power the contraption to amuse Canian Tourists and Surly Biker women.
I spent plenty of time in detention. It was kind of a good thing because it was practically the only time I'd do my homework. It's been awhile, but I'm pretty sure we had to stay after school for an hour. It was held in the cafeteria, and we had to be doing homework or studying. If you showed up late or without anything to do, you'd get kicked out and have to come back the next day to make it up. Plus you got a second detention because you got kicked out. It was lame, and I don't think it detered anyone but athletes. They'd get in lots of trouble with their coaches if they were late to practice because of detention. Our tennis coach would make me run laps for it. Bastard.
In after school detention youd have to write an essay about how you could have avoided being in detention and then youd just sit there and do homework, you werent allowed to sleep, look out windows, or stare at other people. lol For "structured lunch" (middle school detention for minor offenses) youd sit in a class room and wait for the lunch lady to call and tell the teacher that pretty much everyone has been through the lunch line, then you had to walk down there and get your lunch. I never ate though...so I'd have to stand by the cashier person for like 5 minutes, lol I felt stupid because people always knew what you were doing. Then you couldn't talk, sleep, do homework, look at other people, chew gum, chew loudly, laugh, or use ANYTHING as a foot rest. (That list was actually on the door.) Then there was "lunchroom detention" a person got this when they threw food, stomped on milk cartons, etc. I got this when I was pretending to be a stripper, I had just gotten one foot on the chair and one on the table and BAM i was cleaning up chewed cookie from the floor. I hated this and refused to clean...lol. I was always like "What are you going to do? Give me detention, in which I will lounge for an hour and 45 min?" My school was weird...
at my high school, detention was served with the teacher you had an incident with. but what happens at the detention is up to the teacher, so we would do anythign from stare blankly at the wall for an hours, do work for that class. or just have fun in the class. i always had detention and always got kicked outta class.
I only had one detention and during that detention I had to sit in the office while the v.p. did whatever for an hour. He let me go early too!!!
