My lady is a rock nut. Check out her site at exquisiteopals.com This site is almost all opals, but she has lots more.

We have all variety of mineral specimens that we have collected personally. No big Earth-raping messes like those in Brazil and China. The opals of course are commercially mined, but our specimens are the result of us wandering in the woods, searching for old mines, and scouring constructions sites. Hand-dug crystals have a different energy. We have a variety of quartz formations from around NC including some bluish crystals from right here in Pittsboro. We have huge NC garnets, rutile, malachite, pyrite, two types of fosillized coral, jasper and agate from all over. If you like rocks and respect mother earth, insist on the clean energy of hand-dug rocks and only by cut stones that are cut in countries that do not exploit children and prison labor to produce your jewels. Rocks and crystals are repositories ofr the energy focussed on them. Why would someone want to be associated with the missery suffered by some child forced to cut your beautiful rock. Rocks and stones should be beautiful in all ways!

I live in Southern California. Do you know of any kinds of rocks I might find out here. Like in the San Gabriel Mountains or around Big Bear?
