Salvia's interesting....I've done it maybe 5 times...First couple of times, my friend and i were perfecting the technique of smoking it. But after we got the hang of it, wow did it blow our minds....i felt a tremendous "shift" to my right side...almost out of body but not quite...It's not like special K....But the laughing...Oh lord the laughing....Uncontrollable. Not like grass, which seems to make everything seem funnier....It was more like my body just needed to LAUGH......Odd how that happens...

i've heard that the experience is mainly determined on your mind set. for example if you've had a hard day at work you are more likely to have a bad trip.

Is this as safe to do as marijuanna is? I like it that MJ is a mild drug, and if used properly, bad effects can be avoided. Or can this stuff cause bad damage?

Both Salvia and marijuana are clasified as halucinagens, but they are about as different as two halucinagens can be. Salvia is still legal because the effect is overwhelming and often not very pleasent. It is one of the three sacred vision plants of the Yucatan area. Mother herb is like a wild cat. You may catch glimpses from time to time, but when you finally cathch her, it might be a bit more than you expected! Be prepared or stay on the porch! The extracts are a bit more of a sure thing. The cat is in a cage with you! Darkness and silence are traditional. Some say the eyes should be closed. A sitter is essential! Please! I deeply respect the ceremonial use of this tool, but it does not lend itself well to recreational use.

Plant: These are not that rare. The plant grows like a wild mint, and can be propagated very easily. Ask around, your neighbor probably has a start and there are plant stores that specialize in ethnogens. coleus plants look very similar, but usually smaller. Some speculation to Coleus containig Salvinorum has been discussed, but smoking your coleus will almost certainly not get you high.

Drug: Salvinorum A is unique in that it is a diterpene psychadelic. It is chemically very different from THC. Salvinorum is active at very small dose levels, almost comparable to LSD. Extracts can vary in potency wildly because of this! Dosing such a powerful drug is not trivial, and i have not seen much information on toxicity. Little to nothing is known on long-term effects.

My one full experince was completey disorienting in an uncomfortable way. Moments later, a friend had a powerful prophetic and useful vision. I have witnessed several folks try this stuff and have talked to lots more about experiences. I am a chemist and a bit of a witch, so i am naturally curious about this most unusual sacred shamanic tool. Respect her!

Woo. I knew I was right about weed being a halucinagen, though a mild one...
