I'm a middle aged guy who grew up with the hippie thing, became a punk and now live in the reddest of states in W's america.

Yeah, god's got a sick sense of humor. 'sup, kids?

I was never really into the Stones (probably from growing up with the Beatles; seems to be one or the other, doesn't it?) but I'm finding more of their songs sneaking their way into my classic rock collection.

Sympathy For The Devil rocks quite a bit.

Thanks for the welcome! If you ever get a chance to hear X; especially "los angeles" or "wild gift" do so; there's a good chance you'll like them (for what it's worth, both cds are produced by Ray Manzerek.)

Black Flag is probably one of my favorite bands (along with Black Sabbath, early Genesis and Rush), and I like the rest of who you mentioned too (except the misfits; who I simply have never taken the time to listen to).

Sensamelia, I haven't hear Razorlight; what are they like? I like a lot of 70's classic stuff too, not so much van morrison (again, haven't heard a lot) but Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Jethro Tull definately.
