A friend just got diagnosed as being epleptic, this was her first episode and before this she has expressed interest in trying shrooms. Now I don't think that is such a good idea any longer. Any thoughts about this? I don't want to risk her having a seziure while tripping. Salvia seems to be alright with her, but I'm concerned that the colorful visuals that shrooms produce will provoke a seziure.

NO! Do not let your friend do shrooms or any hallucinogenic drug! Anybody with epilepsy or scizophrenia should not do hard drugs! Just look at Syd Barret, he had scizophrenia and he took shrooms and then he went completely psycho! Tell your friend either you won't allow her to do it, or just say you won't be around her when she's on them.

Citrus seas, could you tell me a couple of things?

    Have you done any research?

Why mention schizophrenia in a thread about epilepsy?

Demonslayer, this is realy up to your friend to decide, I'm no expert, but I would imagine that epilepsy has a broad range of severity, that said, It would appear that the danger from epilepsy lies in having a siezure when you are in a dangerous situation (driving a car, alone, near sharp/hot objects, etc)

There may be an increased risk of her having a siezure, but if she is aware of this and you are prepared to be a SOBER sitter for her, then it is really her call.

She has got to come to terms with the fact that she may have siezures in the future, (with or without psychedlics), and still live a full life.

One thing to watch is if there is any medication involved. (especially MAOIs) Then a drastic reduction in dose would be required to produce the same effect.

The best advice would probably be to look into it, and post around untill you find first hand advice from someone with direct experience.

just look on hte next page at the "what the fuck" thread I posted.

i later found out that the kid wasn't an epileptic, but he had had a few seizures before.

and let me tell you watching someone go into a seizure while you're tripping face is horrible. I couldn't do anything. If it had been bad, I wouldnt' have had enough sense to call anyone for help.

I suggest play it safe. better safe than WAY sorry!

i couldnt find the "what the fuck" thread, but a friend of mine who is an epileptic has experience with shrooms, acid, and e among other things. his seizures aren't spasming, he just freezes and blacks out. although i've seen him seizure twice on e, i've also seen two of his seizures on no substance whatsoever, and as far as i know, he hasnt had a seizure on shrooms or acid. he knows the risks, and i suppose he's willing to take them. I dont encourage his use as much as some of my other friends, but its ultimately his choice.

As long as he/she is aware of any inherent risk involved(i'm not sure of the exact effects of various drugs on epilepsy, i'm sure they can be researched) and the people around him/her know of the potential of them having a seizure, i don't think it's right to tell them they can not participate in the taking of a certain drug, again its ultimately up to them, but be safe.
