Ok, nobody seems to be able to help me with this...I can't get rid of these system popups that I keep on getting! Every few minutes or so, I get a system popup within windows and it's very annoying. Here's an example of one of the popups that I'll get:

    Messenger Service

Message from System to User on 7/25/2005 11:45pm

    Error Code: 2341

Invalid entries have been detected in your Windows Registry. Download the latest tool to fix these problems.

    www.regscan.net

    OK

There are several different popups that I get, all pretty much the same deal.

I have Ad-Aware, Spybot S&D, and an antivirus but nothing seems to be able to fix this! Can anyone help?

    do you run a firewall?

i suggest it, could be that some server spams ip's, or just can tell you're there, and is sending you the ads.

also, is it the latest versions of adaware and spybot?

could try posting a hijack this log

OK, its fixable without downloading anything - go start>administrative tools>services. Look in the area with all the names listed, and find messenger. It will tell you a bunch of stuff when you select it, but its basically the thing that activates the communication between your computer and other servers (the alerts, which are the ads you get). Right click, and select properties on Messenger. Then, go to startup type, and select disabled from the drop-down menu. Then hit apply and ok. Then just click on the hyperlink that says 'stop the service'. This should stop it.

Ok I did start>run>services.msc and then did what you said and it seems to have worked. I have known more than one person who's had this problem and was never able to fix it. Thanks!

    Here is a simple solution
    -----------------------------
    1) Click start
    2) Control panel
    3) Performance and Maintanence
    4) Administrative tools
    5) Services
    6) Scroll down to Messenger on the right. Right click Messenger and click properties.
    7) Click Stop
    8) On the Drop down menu listed next to Startup type, click Disable.

    All done! :)

Its important to note that there is acutally nothing wrong with your computer.

This is messenger spam from someone sending you an advertisement via the windows messenger program.

The tips above about disabling the messenger program will make this go away, but you really should get a firewall as trotsky311 suggested.

If you are a high-speed internet user (cable/dsl/etc) you can get a low cost router that will solve 99% of your exposure problems without having to program up any rulesets, assuming you dont normally get inbound internet requests.

    i'll second the router reccommendation.

    also,
    https://www.grc.com/x/ne.dll?bh0bkyd2

check them out, it's called "ShieldsUp" and will do a scan on your computer, letting you know which ports are blocked/cloaked/open

very nice tool in my opinion
