I have a portfolio to get together for a school in about six months, I have alot of pieces, I was just wondering if anyone had any advice on what colleges look for? Or if anyone has any scholorship information.
if u just coming outta highschool and ur not going for some top notch art acadamy, then fine arts program at a regular Uni will pretty much accept u with finger painting... lol not that simple but its not like the hardest thing ever to do. I'd say if u have 3-d work or 2-d thats just really big/awkward to lug around, then take pictures of ur stuff using slide film... Then in ur interview u can conviently just show them slides. I think getting together with ur current or former art teachers to pick out ur best work would be a good idea... or if none of ur teachers are reachable, then just someone with some good overall knowledge of art theory.... 2 heads are better than 1 when it comes to picking out ur best work i think... I defiantly think the quality of your work would stand out more than bombarding an admissions interviewer with 400 pieces... lol, anyways good luck with the interview. you should try sometime to post some of ur work on these forums
if you have ever done a series of work, or some sort of cohesive body of work, even 4 or 5 pieces that have a similiar theme, idea, colors, medium, what not, i would show those. if you do 3-dimensional work and say works on canvas, show some of each, variety in working with mediums, etc. is always good. i take digital slides of my work and keep them in slide form as well as on a disc so you can let someone keep the copies of your work, this is good for exhibiting too... and i would take the advice of the poster above, art teachers/professors can really help when it comes to determining you most creatively mature work... are you going to VCU by any chance? not sure if you are in richmond, va or not... good luck!
I don't think asking for ideas on some forum is the best idea for this. Art should be something you think about/put effort into/imagine/etc. with your own imagination. Especially since nobody here knows what you prefer/like/interest/ideas/etc. The only real advice I can tell you is to make lists on what you like/your personal dreams/powerful events in your life/etc. and use that for your project.
I wasn't asking for advice on what to paint, I was asking for advice on what kind of pieces, mediums, and work colleges looked for. I to know creativity comes form the mind, and soul, and I would never take advice from someone on what to paint. Thanks for your advice though
