Hi, I am doing an essay on mixing desks, but I have a few questions if anyone can help...

    1. What is an "8-into-2" mixing desk? What does this "x-into-y" thing mean?

    2. What is matrix routing?

Thank you for any help you may have, its very important as I'm struggling with this.

8-into-2 means basically 8 channels (i.e faders) into 2 stereo channel outputs.

Matrix routing, i have no idea, i think its a device that lets you plug in various devices and this machine sends it out through its outputs by a switch...found this http://www.vtx.co.uk/infomatics/vx8500.htm#4x4hb.

for the X-into-Y thing i have no idea....i did a course in music tech as well, lol

Cheers very much, by the "x-into-y" thing, I just meant where 8 is x and y is 2, (8-into-2), because i've seen 14-into-4, if you know what I mean. Anyway, this has been of great use to me, thank you again.
