What are people's thoughts on this movie? I've decided I really like it, althought it is just sex...with pretty much no substance. If you can see the humor in it...I donno!
I lopved it... wonderful directing, beautiful acting... just such a wonderul movie all around! "Hermanitos de leche guey!!!"
i think it's great - it is more than just sex - what about the commentary as the drive along, like the stuff about the chickens? (sorry, that won't ruin it for people, i hope ) i really liked this film.
Love the film, but I also feel it's so much more than sex. There's social and political commentary in the narration all through the film.
you're right! what do you think of Cuaron's Harry Potter? It's no Y tu (obviously), but I did like it.
He definitely created a vast improvement on the first two Harry Potters which sucked ass really bad. The third one was actually good, and I am pretty sure that it is mostly (or all) due to his directing since the screenwriter was the same person as the first two. He made the movie more dark, and a lot more real. Anyway, I really really liked Y tu mama tambien. Not the best movie I've ever seen or anything, but it was still extremely good.
Y tu mama tambien is a mexican movie.. there might be others that you might like. Like Amores Perros (21 grams is from the director of this movie), Sexo, Pudor y Lagrimas. I can´t remember a few others that I think are good. Spanish movies.. I like Carne Tremula, Hable con Ella. Both From Almodovar. And one of the best movies I´ve seen is Ciudad de Deus (City of God).
This movie is one of my favorites. The actors were very believable and the twists and turns in the plot were excellent. Charlostra... chaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarloooooooooooooooooo
Those are not just sex movies, it's just a different way of making movies. In "y tu mamá también" you can see some social and actual situations in Mexico. And all those movies you talked about are very different. "Jamón, jamón" is a Vigas Luna's movie, and all of his movies are very explicit, they have sexual contents but they always tell nice stories. And Almodovar's movies are a totally different way of making cinema. And he has several ages in his filmography, the first movies are more sexual, and the last movies are deeper movies, more sensual, and more sentimental, really beautiful stories. I specially liked "Hable con ella" ("Talk to her").
Great Spanish movie is La Comunidad by Alex de la Iglesia.Very mean humour. Also love Almodovars movies.
I really, really, really liked this movie. The sex was very erotic, and I never thought it was just a sex movie. The dialogue was not sex-movie dialogue or big-dumb-fires-and-car-crashes dialogue. This is why I go to independent films and foreign films.
If you plan on seeing Almodovars flicks then I'd recommend "Tacones lejanos", "Mujeres al borde de un ataque de nervios" and "Carne trémula", those were pretty decent. I don't care much for the rest of his movies - not that I've watched all of them anyway. "Kika" sounds interesting and I thought "Habla con ella" was a bit disappointing, I don't know why it got so much publicity. I haven't watched "y tu mamá también" and that other mexican movie "Amores Perros" had such a good beginning but alas it went downhill pretty fast. The introducing plot about those "dog bets" was the most interesting one. "Jamón, jamón" was great, it's just too grotesque and funny...it oozes sex. All movies from spain seem so sexualized. When it comes to de la Iglesia...I only watched "Acción mutante" and "Perdita Durango" so far and I must say I disliked both, his a cult status doesn't move me much. Sure, "Acción mutante" is based on a hilarious idea, it's about a bunch of mutants and challenged people who seek revenge over the attractive/successful ones and society in general but it just evolves into poor B-Movie Trash.
At first, I really only wanted to watch it for the sex(ahh, to be 15 again..), but as I was watching it, I realised it was about more than that, and that it carried far more important messages and had a rather good plot.
