Daniel Quinn, I just want to spread the word about his brilliance. Start with Ishmael. As you can see (my user name) It will open your eyes and your mind to so many things.
Hi Ishmael, I'm also sympathetic to Daniel Quinn's ideas. Knowing that there are others like yourself who also share my sympathies is very incouraging. As much as I share many of Daniel's ideas, I still don't care much for his writting style. Daniel believes that the stories we tell are, not only very revealing, but also, very influencing upon each generation. Yet his story-telling ability is somewhat lacking. That's why I prefer his book, 'BEYOND CIVILIZATION'. There he simply states his many ideas about Civilization without the pretence of a plotted fictional story-line. I have other critiques of Daniel's critique of Civilization; suffice it to say, that I feel Daniel does not penetrate either the psycho-sexual motivations behind Civilization nor the true power of our collective mytho-poetic-archetypes. Fortunately, Daniel's books come under discussion here on this forum frequently, so we will have many opportunities to critique his work in the future.
