arent most paper bags made with recycled paper? ,at least in part. and as far as carring a backpack, its a good way for hippy type folks to become familier with store detectives. myself, i just toss the plastic bags in the recycleables can and hope for the best. I do wonder at times if I'm doing the right thing, and just how much of my decition is selfish because i can unload my ride so much faster and safer

I've used rucksacks and cloth bags for years and only once did I get questioned. Use the cart/trolley and have the bags lying in the top but upside down.
In Mexico, folks sell plastic mesh to use at the market. Stuff is nearly indestructable. I have one from my sweetie's days living there.
Easy to clean, but man, do the Mexicans have a penchant for pink (ick)!
I see them available from importers in the US.

I never see anyone reusing plastic bags in my area, there used to be special bins outside supermarkets for your old bags but I don't know if they still have them...
I use a cloth bag for shopping and plan on making more, any plastic bags we get are used and used again. Some shops charge for their bags but only the extra strong ones which defeats the point as people who don't want to pay for bags use even more free ones.

Reduce and reuse should come before recycling. and are you sure your community even recycles the no. 4 plastic that plastic bags are made of, not many do, you could end up just costing your recycling program more money by throwing in something that has to be sorted out and landfilled anyways. :)

That's why reduce and reuse is more important, only metals are recycled feasibly, at least with current technologies.

I try to keep some bags in my purse, in the car, in the bike basket, at the office, but every now and then I find myself without a bag and have to take the plastic bag offerred. I just reuse the bags for shopping or garbage or to take recyclables to the blue bin (no blue boxes given in my residence). I give smaller bags to dog owners for scooping.

At times I run so low of bags that I relieve others of their excess baggage lol, so many ppl have a kitchen drawer stuffed full of plastic bags.

Plastic bags are everywhere. I always see them stuck in trees, in feilds etc.

I live in "the ghetto", so to cut back on cost the grocery stores don't supply you with bags, unless you pay. Nobody pays so they provide old cardbored boxes at the check out. You just pack your grocerys in em, bring em home and toss them out for the next recycling pick up. Even some of the chain stores do it.

Alot more friendly then even paper bags, and much better then plastic bags.

In Bulgaria we have the same problem with the plastic bags. It's a global event as you see. My personal decision is to use a bag made of cloth when I'm at home and I must go to shopping in neighbourhood. But we still don't use a paper bags and I thought that we are not enough educated society. Now I see that the bulgarian aren't the only one :)

the only thing i've seen here is two stores that use the boxes instead of bags. other than that it is just all plastic bags. i've never seen anyone with cloth bags and i've never seen paper bags either. well not big paper bags, the little ones at convient stores that they put cigarettes in and stuff but other than that...

My grocery store across the street charges 5 cents per plastic bag. My boyfriend works at a bank, and they gave him a few cloth bags with their logo on it, so I use them.
It really works out better for me, as I walk everywhere, and the handles of the cloth bag doesn't tear by the time I get home like the plastic ones always seem to.

Here in Ireland they have a high charge on plastic bags....now people buy a couple of canvas bags and reuse them....

Thats the way it should be. Plastic bags don't break down, they litter the planet forever.... I'm here in California now and it really surprises me by the amount of plastic bags being used everywhere.

i always take my own bags to the store and re-use them as long as they will last. And I ALWAYS make a point to point out plastic bag facts to my cashier. UGH but the other day there was an extra bag and the bag boy threw it out right in front of me and i was like.. excuse me.. do you have ANY idea how...
    etc etc

When I worked at Superstore they had to pay for the bags, so most people brought their own... and they could buy reuseable bags from us. Thats was the only go thing about working there I think.

...Ya my mum keeps here bags and reuses them. Although I'm sorry to say that here I don't think anyone does. But there are tons of them lying around haha I'm sure we could do something with them.

i hate plastic bags; i use my backpack or canvas bags.
some places i go the cashier looks at me like i have 3 heads when i say i don't need a bag!

if i do have plastic bags around, i use carry them back to stores and re-use them, or use them as poopie bags (you dog people know what i mean!)
