I had a big one on the heel of my foot back in high school. There is medicine sold over-the-counter which you can buy to get rid of them, but i forgot what it's called. Anyway, with this medicine (which is actually a mild acid) you apply it to the wart with a swab. After doing this for a couple days, it gradually starts to diminish and eventually disappear.
Compound W is the OTC medicine you can use. Works pretty well, but you have to re-apply it regularly for a month or so. You can use the patch, or the liquid that you put on it, both work.
published recently (Veg Times, maybe) was a study showing that duct tape applied to a wart and filing each morning got rid of warts at least as quickly as salicytic acid (compound W, asprin)
Filing a plantar wart? Ouch! I've heard about that remedy but thought it was only for regular warts. I had a few plantar warts on my soles several years ago. They were painful and annoying, but quickly went away after getting some over the counter treatment. I forget the brand. It might have been Dr. Scholls.
i had some on my feet and i had to get them cut out. but then one started to grow back so i put one of those over the counter things on it for a couple days and it eventually just fell out in my hand So not sure if it was the medicine or the surgery that did it.
