If you think that hippies only exist on the internet, then you must not have ever been to Northern California.

there is an all hippy community in Holland, or somewhere around there. search eiter "hippie" or "hippy" on the bbc news site. also i am guessing that you dont have any original hippies in your family, cuz if you did they might rub off on you, kinda like what happened to me...

Until the world is at peace, there will always be those working towards it. Generation after generation after generation...

I suppose I sort of agree with you in some sense. I don't really believe that hippies exist anymore either. I just believe in free spirits. You put a label such as 'hippie' on it and people think "well now I have to wear hemp and spread peace and wear birks and listen to 60's music" blah blah blah, but that's not what it's about. It's about FREEDOM and such.

if the maority of the hippies ACTUALLY gave a rats ass about the hippie movement the world would be a much better place. the hippies of the 60's were just being hippies to rebel and for an excusse to get high...thats it. it was the cool thing to do, so it's what people did. there is probably just as many hippies around now as there were actually in the 60's.

I think the whole UNIFIED, all around the world, way of life "peace, love, and hair grease" is dead but there's still a million and one individual hippies running around.

You all are confusing the stereotypes.

Hippies do not exist, they cannot, there is nothing to be a hippy about these days... it's no longer a counter culture, it is just another stereotype... like goth and punk and such...

there are peace loving people, activists...

just stop fucken labelling yourself... especially such an idiotic term as "hippy"...

    damn kids.

I resent that; I was listening to The Byrds, The Turtles, Herman's Hermits and the like (willingly) when I was 12; I was interested in the concept of barefoot living when I was 8 (long before I even knew about hippies really). And I only wear hemp because I think metallic jewelry looks crude and unnatural... My hair, well, I just did it (at first) because my friend had long hair way back when.

Not to mention that I don't call myself ahippie; do you think the counter culture folk of the 60's did? I call myself me, but I do behave in ways some people may see as "being a hippie."

Being a hippy isnt something you become just because of what you wear or what music you listen to. If you fight for peace and love, then you're a hippy. And there'll always be people fighting for change, so there'll always be hippies.

in my eyes you are the 'damn kid'

i know many people who still go by the name hippy, young and old, because they realize generilaztions like that make life a little easier. but they also usually aware enough to realize when generilaztions are being taken too far. but the word hippy has come to represent a lot of really good stuff, for them. of course, the 'label' exists too, and it is a trend in some places, but that does not mean there is no such thing as the real thing.

anywho, hippies definatley still exist, all over the place. trust me, you are definatley not the only one. the revolution now a days is an internal one.

Ofcourse they make life easier, you fool, that's why you're so fucken weak!

People who choose to label themselves let go of thier personality, thier individuality to fit a whole...because...it's easier!!!

It's easier to say yer this or that, but to actually live in that sense would first require an accurate definition, and as these forums have proved that can be very difficult. you can't stereotype an individual, only the group. if yer lookin' for an excellent stereotype, please let me suggest: omnivore
I"m a Cancer, my star sign... but those stereotypes are just silly.

the popularity of wearing bright clothes, smoking allotta pot, free love, and all the stereotypical traits of popular hippie culture have gone, and some people still try to follow this

however there are alot of people who have peacefull views, who like to wear things that look pretty (sparkly n colorfull) without bothering what people think

i'm no hippie, but i have ideals which out of all the grouped indeviduals is closest to those of the hippie...but i am my own man, and i will sing loud and i will sing proud :)

if a little out of tune
