to what extent do you all think you all have control over your lives and realities? i dont think its much... especially when im talking it seems... its almost like what im saying just flows right through and then out of me. sometimes it comes off as kind of rude too i think, which is not my intention at all and very unfortunate... but i guess thats the result of other peoples attatching themselves to their egos too much? or maybe its just their karma and they were setting themselves up for it before i even came into the picture, and im just working as a tool sordove? its like im watching this whole information highway movie progress and transform from this distant place inside myself. its a really nice place though when i can find it. anybody else here know what i mean?
Interesting, I've been thinking a lot about "choice" lately. Whether such a thing exists and to what extent. It seems so basic to our understanding of life, but I can't imagine any mechanism that would allow for it. If our brains are all electrochemical organs reacting to stimuli according to the laws of physics, where does choice come in? It seems more like a very very complex automatic reaction than any choosing going on, but due to it's complexity, it SEEMS like choice. But I'm not sure I buy that, but I can't think of any reason not to.
so if three cards were laid flat on a table and you had a time rewinder (hypothetical) ... then what you're saying is that you would go back and pick the same card each time?
No, because it's a random "choice" not based on something important (like, do you take the spagetti or the pizza, which would actually depend on what your inner chemistry is calling for). Such games of chance don't really apply to choice because it's a blind "choice". But perhaps I would pick the same card. Maybe there is a reason I picked it. My point with my previous post is this: what is choice, how does it work? I can't see, knowing what I do about the brain, how it could work, though I'm still open to ideas.
I kindof see what you are getting at but not completely. Of course the brain is responsible for what "choice" you make. Your brain is You. You can call it chemistry if you'd like. You can call it sensibility. Intelligence. Knowledge. Your choices are based on what you know and what you believe. Call it chemistry...
I guess it comes down to this. You and I seem to agree that we choose based on what we know, past experiences, etc. Well, the question of free will comes to this: If someone who had live the same life, had the same experiences, same knowledge, and was now faced with the same choice I am...would he be able to choose differently? If not, choice is an illusion.
I think there is a choice but only if we choose to have such a choice. May be what you are all saying is true but I think if we are to live an active life, we can and if we live a passive life we can, it is up to us.
I think that the fact that this is impossible defines choice. When you look at the situation from fate's angle, you will always make the same decision. To me, all choice represents is the possibility of multiple outcomes as a result of your actions. Choice doesn't exist in the past... why should it in the future?
i say that our choices are infinite, But we pretty much are hindered by gravity and wut not... But are choices are limited, in the sense that every different posibility can only be achieved through this(or your) point in time and space. so say right now and here is the number Zero. then the possibilites (of what you can choose in the future) are every possible number u can imagine (which is infinite). I guess u would call 1/-1 the acualities or only reachable choices.... I think it's amazing how quickly my mind is scanning the future looking for the next possible choice to make, without me even knowing this is going on. Or what's setting off feelings inside me. I think that attempting to balance feeling the inside and outside at the same time would help me stop getting so caught up in myself when i think an anxious thought.
