I have played the acoustic for a little over five years now, and it is tough to learn. I didnt take any lessons, I just looked up the basics on the internet and learned how to read tablature and took it from there. In the beginning, it is very tough and frustrating but its all worth it in the end!!!

Easy cheese man. Just learn 3 chords and you 'll know 500 songs! Yay! You'll be the next teenage hearthrob!

Can I get your aughtograph now, so's I can beat the crowds?

I had been playing for years until I broke my wrist for the second time and now I'm almost completely unable to play... Anyways, I'd say it's always easier if you have big hands, with long fingers, especially for bar chords. Me with my tiny hands I had a hard time at first, but, like anything, with a lot of practice, you'll get good at it. Taking lessons would be helpful if you want to learn how to play in a more "elaborate" way, and also if you'd like to learn the notes and all that...

Start off with Nylon strings. Beginning with steel strings will chew your finger tips apart until the calluses are built up.

If you decide to switch to steel strings, make certain the guitar is made for them. Using steel strings on guitars made for nylon strings will break the neck.

Playing guitar is the best thing anyone could do for themselves. Although you will have moments where you want to throw the guitar through a wall, it is worth all the practice and dedication in the end. After about a year of teaching myself to play i could play almost every song i've always wanted to learn. Now I'm on my 5th year of playing and i learn new stuff almost everyday. If you decide to play.. good luck with it.. but dont give up!! Play on

I say start off with ernie ball slinky strings. They are easy to use and alot of bands use em so ur not like using a beginner string they are just easier. Acoustic is great to start out on then you move up. I say u dont need lessons just read tab if you dont know how im me and i will help ya out. Just practice and you will get good. I am teaching myself how to finger pick. IM learning landside from fleetwood mac its easy when ya PRACTICE

first, learn the major and minor chords, noting the chord shapes. then, learn barre chords. that way, youll have enough of a foundation to play rhythm guitar.

then, learn scales... as many as you can! start with the blues scale.

and then... start in to learning about modes! yippee!

do all this, in addition to learning how to play other peoples songs and what not, and youll surely develop your very own style!

    freak out!
