The first time I heard that played was in my high school auditorium in 1969 (before woodstock!). A group of the freakiest kids in school got up and played it at very high volume (as it should). The teachers were holding their ears & shaking their heads! I'd never heard anything like it before & I loved it since it was so non-conformist & radical, yet totally appropriate for a school assembly in the 1960s!

I wonder what became of those kids who played it. They were really, really good!

I was about 50 ft. from the stage when jimi broke into the National Anthem. I can still recall looking around and seeing the look of surprise, wonder and amazement on all the young faces when it was suddenly realized what he was playing. All of this was within in a time frame of about 5 seconds.

people shouldnt try to learn to play the way hendrix did, particularly when it comes to the national anthom, that was something done in the moment, those notes arent meant to be recreated, if you want to play the star spangled banner, do it in your own way, as a product of your own moment..... just my two cents

You wont be able to make it sound like him unless you have a fuzz face, octavio, wah pedal, univibe, etc. He used every pedal on that song. Also, I play Hendrix but I dont play that song. No one but Hendrix has the right to play the song the way he did. It was his own, and for any of us to play it or anyone else for that matter is just looking for attention.

I don't see what's so big and inspiring about that damn song.
It's just like classical thump, everyone fucking plays it like it's god's gift to the bass.

i learned that but im trying to make it my own. i wanna do the same with the god save the queen. Hendrix's version was so beautiful and breath taking and then assholes called it unorthodox and he said " i didnt think it was unorthodox. I thought it was beautiful."

i watch him play it over and over again.

By the way, if any of you happened to see that Hendrix movie, it was retarded, wasn't it? None of his original music, and they got a bunch of stuff wrong and the gyu didn't play him right. looke dlike him a little but didnt capture the true Jimi. He also played the woodstock anthem part COMPLETELY WRONG.

yeah, for the love of god... dont try to copy it note for note (the hendrix version that is...). its a great piece to experiment with... so much emotion in that simple little song...

Download Guitar Pro and get the serial code off of www.serials.ws
Then go to www.mysongbooks.com and get tabs for GP.
GP is awesome if you're trying to learn songs unless you prefer sheet music.

I agree; don't try to imitate this masterpiece. It should be left as Jimi Hendrix's, and his alone.

That song is beautiful man, it makes me proud to be just knowing one of my kind (a human) created something so marvelous.
Does that make any sense? I'm not even American but Jimi's version brings tears to my eyes.

Not to mention the mid-song improvision is fucking mind-blowing.
