Let's share some of the myths we have heard about breast feeding. Here are a couple of my favorites... 1. "Women who breast feed beyond the first year do so because they want to have sex with their children." Someone needs to explain this one, because from what I know about pedophiles breast feeding isn't a turn on. 2. "Vegans can't breast feed." I went vegan at 14 and have been fruitarian for almost a year now. This myth is really stupid.
LOL WTF? That's the worst one I've ever heard! Not only is that stupid, it also doesn't make any sense because I've always heard that the oposite is true.
My brother has slight learning disabilities, but I'm a university student. We were both breastfed for the exact same length of time (11 months each). So obviously it doesn't make the slightest bit of diffrence. Can't think of any others, just zone out from then because obviously they're untrue. Oh no wait, something about bottle feeding is easier/more convenient. Bottle = Getting up in the middle of the night, going down stairs, mixing up the formula, getting it to the right temperature, taking it back upstairs, feeding the baby, then washing and sterelising the bottle for the next feed. Vs Breast = err just popping baby on the breast. No contest really Even the freaking forumla companies admit breast milk is better for babies (so they are kindly adding all the probiotics and stuff that you'd have ready made and for free if you just breastfed)
A breastfeeding baby needs extra water in hot weather. Ok, so how did they give babies water before bottles were invented?
When my babies wanted to nurse more often my grandmother would say "Maybe your milk isn't strong enough"....
I have also heard that baby food is a product of baby food companies and that if babies really needed more than the boob, we would have extras with strained peas, carrots and pablum in them.... That would really suck when you leaked...
"I have to wean my baby because I am pregnant" or "I can't nurse twins" Tandem nursing may not be a walk in the park, especially at first, but it can be done, and IS done on a regular basis worldwide. For a small percentage of women who are at high risk of premature labor, nursing while you are pregnant may not be advised. It is also possible to nurse twins,
"Only poor people breastfeed" Says my 65-year-old grandmother. To which i always reply "well, i AM poor, but i would breastfeed anyway--look how healthy my mom and her sisters were growing up (and your kids weren't!); it's totally worth it."
Why couldn't you nurse twins? I have so many sets of twins in my family it isn't even funny. I think it is inherited or something. As I told my fiance; "We are a fertile people."
Of course you can. Honestly people seem to forget that for the last few thousand years, still and in most cultures, breastfeeding was/is the only option. You just suck it up and deal. Twins sound like fun (hypothetically at least)
