Out of curiosity, has anyone here ever taken diet pills? If so, what kinds, and what results did you have with them? I’ve read up on some, mostly Zantrex 3, “The number one selling diet pill in America!” :p But, what I read was.. well kinda scary.

Ie. Heartattack symptoms, and rashes, the jitters, and so on.

So, I’m looking for some advice on this. I’m not seriously contemplating taking any, yet.

I first used Dexatrim about 20 yrs ago & they really stopped my desire to eat then...could go all day without eating. Tried them again last yr and they didn't work at all. Also tried Hydroxicut last yr but they were also a waste of money.

i work at a place that sells prescription appetite suppresent diet pills, and i have mixed feelings about them... you know, if you seriously have a problem, and you just need something to make you less hungry, then it's okay to take them (in small doses)...but when you weigh 102 pounds and you get the kind with the strongest milligram that you take 3 times a day...that's not good for you! but, like i said, if you take only the reccomended dose, and you do it until you get to your desired weight, and no longer, because i've seen the women that are addicted to them (not good) then more than likely everything will be just fine!

I'd say go to a doctor and ask about it. Its much safer that way. The pills wont do it alone. Its the pills+diet+exercise= weight loss.

What's the point of taking a chemical drug to lose weight in the first place? It's risky if you ask me. I'd never do it. Medicines are for people who are ill. To treat a non-medical condition with a drug seems weird. It's probably much more effective to change lifestyle and eat healthy instead. People have weight problems because they eat too much unhealthy food and don't move enough. Some people take the car EVERYWHERE! I walk.

I'm not over weight, but I'm trying to lose a little excess at the moment by avoiding bread, cheese and pasta for a while. I hardly ever eat fast food, chips, crisps or sweet things. The metabolism does get slower as one gets older though, so I can't eat the things I used to. I had to change my diet after I had my kids because I had put on a lot of weight during the pregnancies.

If the reason for the weight gain isn't caused by medicine, I don't believe the cure for it should come from medicine either. Use natures own ways. We weren't made to eat Big Mac's and sit on our fat asses all day watching TV. If we fuck up our bodies on purpose (eat too much fat and sugar) we shouldn't use medicines to correct it. That would only make us keep that same old unhealthy lifestyle, because the pills are around. Don't buy the shit.

My advice, is to not take them.
if you're looking to lose some weight, try to eat healthier, eat more veggies than anything.. or fruits work just as well.
    Juices and water to drink.
And some physical activity. I dont mean you have to go to the gym and exhaust yourself on the stairmaster, just simply try to get on your feet and walk, or jog a bit.
Simple crunches or sit ups for the stomach will do, to help flatten it.
If youre unhappy with your arms, get some 5 pound weights and do about 15 arm curls on each arm every day. Doesn't take long, and it doesn't strain your muscles.

Diet pills are very dangerous. I used to take Dexatrim, and found myself feeling extremely jittery. I couldnt hold my hand out without it shaking like crazy. Diet pills always have been and always will be bad for your heart.

I actually, beg you not to take them. As I have had horrible experiences with them, and you never know which ones are *safe* or not. Im not really sure if there is such a thing as a safe diet pill.

Motivate yourself, lose weight the healthy way.

I have taken lots of different kinds of diet pills. I have taken xenadrine, hydroxycut, two kinds of trim spa, and stacker 2 & 3 & lite. I was addicted to stacker 2's when they had ephedra in them. I had to wean myself off of them. I used to get killer migraines if I'd forget to take them. I've never tried zantrex 3. They are all bad for you though. The prescription ones you will be stuck on the rest of your life to maintain the weight. (my mom is on them) Join a gym, exercise with a friend, eat well, take care of youself. Pills are overpriced, don't work and will hurt you in the long run. I do take supplements to help the weight loss process further along though. I take a multi vitamin, calcium pills and garlic tablets and green tea pills.

My sister used something like Metobolife? I don't remember the exact name. Any way she lost about 50 pounds in 6 months. She stopped using them after that and gained back about 10 pounds but she never had any side effects or anything.
I think diet pills can be helpful/useful if you are really over weight and you take them as directed.
    I'm not a doctor though. :D

Adipex are prescription diet pills. I don't know anyone personally, that takes them to lose weight. They're like speed...they definitely kill your appetite, give you tons and tons of energy. But they cause moodswings, jitters, hallucinations(in some people),increased heart rate,etc..and they're addictive. Bad stuff...I wouldn't recommend those to anyone.

    Obeseity IS a medical problem.

That being said, diet pills CAN often cause more problems than they solve. They should only be used by people who are really obese and only under the care of a doctor who will keep a close eye you. Also, like others have said, they should only be combined with healthy eating and exercise. But obesity is a major health problem, and in selected cases some diet pills can help a few people who can't stop overeating. But IMO, they are a last resort. There are healthier ways to lose weight.

    And losing weight takes time.

Most diet pills have the same effects as speed. That's why they're not such a great alternative. Surprise, surprise.
