Hi, He's a quick site that i made with the pics on. www.freewebs.com/arrons_dreads let me know if they're ok or if they're shite (yes and i know they already look it but i wana' know if they are good for 2 days n if i did anything wrong lol). Also, i used a Knotty Boy kit thing (with the wax n shit). My mam is trying to get m to go to a hairdressers that does dreads, what you's think i should do? Keep the dreads ive got or go get some new ones with a 'professional'. Anyway, thanks for ur time. Peace.
They look twisted.. you didn't twist them did you? And, it's your decsion but WAX IS BAD. Trust me, I went for the whole wax and neat dread look for a few months and now I am paying for it. They look okay I think, dreadlocks just take time. They are very unique looking dreads. Happy dreading journey.
well... they are very big, i think you should take them out and redo them. Go to a salon place if thats what u want, but u can do them ur self to, w/ the help of a patient friend. do them in smaller sections. You had quite a few bald spots haha. they are unique haha. If you like em keep those ones in. But i would redo them. no offence. im glad ur gettin dreads!
Ok firstly DROP THE WAX!!! it will do NOTHING to elp them... if anything it will make them look greasy. It also prevents the knotting because it stops the moving of the hair. I'd sujjest actually brushing them out while you can. re-doing them YOURSELF (or with a friend) with NO wax. They should look (at 2 days old) very fluffy and big and not very dreadlock like. After about 5 months they will look dreadlock like ish. DONT go to a salon, they have a habit of just sticking loads of crap in your dreads. Dreads are natural and beautiful things.... you will feel more empowered if your just patient and leave the wax well alone. I did the same, first time i used wax, 2 days later i washed it all out and started again 6 months later wax less.. and im sooo glad. They are now a year and a half old and growing more beautiful every day. I must say you should look into hair treatment with dreads, Basically the idea is to keep the hair, clean, grease free and dry enough.
right, im in two minds. Stick with the one's ive got and just wait and see what kind of magic may take place OR start again, without the wax and leave my hair alone....the only problem is, how do i do it without wax?? lol Thanks again. Peace.
BTW, Skank,We did twist them, this was told to us in the Knotty Boy instruction booklet that i got with the kit.
Do them again without the wax, just brush them out and rebackcomb the hair in smaller maybe more organized sections and then leave them be and let the dreadlocks do there thing. I also would not suggest twisting them.. doesn't really help the dreading process I've found.
alright i did it w/o out wax and heres how i did it. start from the back and bottom. section off your hair and pin back the hair ur not using so its out of your way. make sections as you go, and hold that hair and from the root to the tip back comb it, (the opposite of regular combing it towards the scalp) and keep doing it until its pretty knotted up. dont make big sections either or it will look bad, your dreads grow as the become older.if u want to rubber band them not too tight for a couple days and then take the rubber bands out, and keep palm rolling them. and twist a little, but i think backcombing is the best way to get em. so there you go haha have fun doing it!! and no wax this time, PEACE! and good luck
As far as neat sectioning goes..i didnt i just grabbed small clumps.. as long as you have vaguely the same amount on each side it shouldnt be too bad. depend weather your going for "stylish, small and neat" ...or "natural hippy fluff" ... i ended up somewhere between the two Ok with out wax its sim=ple.. make sure you've prepared your hair for about a week before just to let all the conditioner out (you'll use a lot to get out all that goo you stuck in you hair) then avoid using conditioner from now on. use natural soap bars that dont moisturise. then when your ready to start... grab a section ... rubit about a bit till its a bit knotty, take the ends and pull them appart (or get a fine toothed comb and back comb it... personally i found the first method better for me as i was just guiding my hair and letting it do what it wanted as eventually thats whats going to happen anyway) keep doing that over and over till you have one dread. Its a LONG process. NO twisting.. twisting doesnt make dreads it makes twists. NO WAX wax doesnt make dreads it make hair glued together.
right, i think thats what im gonna' do. Thanks for all the replies and info, im very thankful! lol. anwyay, i'll catch ya's later. peace.
right, i think im gonna' go with the natural path. nice one with all the replies and info, very much appreciated! lol BTW, one last question. How long will it take to look good? I got pleanty of time, just wondering thats all. peace.
at least 6 months before you begin to feel them as being propper dreads however if your anything like me you'll love them from the first day. if it untangles...let it... thats what i say and just leave it and it will reform.
Nothin wrong with big dreads. I have big bumpy dreads and the tips arent rounded. People compliment them all the time. If you want the truth...sometimes I wish they were smaller, so it stings when someone says those dreads are too big. I have a friend that had one waist length giant dreadlock. he rules. Eventually he cut it off and it became a dog toy. heh. I have thick hair tho so there arent really any bald patches, I dint seee any in your pics either tho. The thing about dreads is they get bigger with time, lotsa time. So if they start out big, then five years down the road, theyre gonna be really big. Which is cool.
