A Hippies was a spoil kid with well off parents who could afford to roam the streets when living in the U.S was very cheap .food was cheap. gasoline was cheap. drugs were cheap,Rent was cheap, most cops did not know 90% of the drugs sold in the streets and did not care either. You let your hair grow long and put on colorfull clothes on, The more hardcore Hippies were hard to find. Those are the ones who can answer your questions.

Everybody has there own definition of hippy. you have yours, and i have mine. people are reluctant to define it in there own words cause people like you will jump all over them for "catagorizing"

anyhow, my defenition of "hip" is someone who belives in peace, love, and acceptance and shows it. I think dreads are a great way to show that you are a little out of the mainstream.

as for my use of the word square, i guess i knew you would be offended by that to. it is after all a catagory. My def of a square is some one who is very un-hip, un-kynd, and would judge someone negativly for having a different appearance. Example: a CEO republican who pullutes or something.

alright well, obviously we know that dreads didnt start really until the 80's 90's and they arent saying that ALL hippies have dreads. I mean i have dreads. It was just a question, and you dont need to question that question. lets just leave it at that and say oh no they did not have dreads, it was mostly a rastafarian thing, and then when regea became popular, then SOME hippies liked the looked and though hey i'll get dreads, and thats what happened!! thats the story of the dreads. I know that why i got mine, i liked them not because i thought every hippie HAD to get them, i liked them. Thats all !! peace to everyone!
