Does anyone else think this is a bad idea for drug users? The idea you crash and "help" is underway imediatly before you can sober up or ditch shit?
It's a bad idea for ANYONE who values their privacy, IMHO. For those that don't know, OnStar is an optional system in many GM automobiles that consists of a hands-free satellite phone coupled to a GPS receiver and the airbag system. In the event of a crash where the airbags deploy, the system automatically "phones home" to an OnStar call center, and reports the vehicle's location, and brings a representative on the line to attempt to assist the driver and passengers until the police or other help arrive. During non-emergencies, the phone can also be used by the driver (for a monthly fee) to request driving directions, find a local GM repair shop, etc. Sounds all well and good, but the phone feature can also be turned on remotely without the driver's knowledge, allowing the OnStar people (and law enforcement) to effectively "bug" your vehicle. Since it is a hands free cellphone, the microphone picks up any conversations you are having inside the car! I have similar privacy concerns about the "LoJack" stolen car locator system. The issue here isn't bugging, butthe ability of law enforcement to activate the transmitter (without your knowledge) and track you wherever you go..... BTW, this is being moved to the Scienceand Technology forum, as it concerns more than just potsmokers....
no they cant tell you are high. enless you look really fucked up and you act stupid. just know how well you are when you are high. then base on that. i think id be pretty convincing being sober
Damn, Ellis pretty much said what I was going to. Down with Onstar! The yuppies fucking love it, though, and they wouldn't think twice about such a thing. I notice Onstar seems to be advertised a lot on AM talk-radio.
Yeah...that sucks...but I wish I had something like it today when my car quit running while I was going 45 miles an hour down the highway and I could have freaking died.... My son slept through the whole ordeal.
down with yuppies!!! i am never gonna get it and if the car i get has it, i'm having it removed. Onstar is advertised everywhere. i saw it in the sunday paper.
thats insane. although, why would they single me out to bug my car? i wouldnt worry about it. and if i get in an accident stoned, i wasnt stoned, i was just dazed from the accident, just a little shook up.
My mom has it in her car, and if something happens, they come on and ask you if you're alright and if you need someone to come check on you....they don't just automatically send someone. And if you're in an accident, the cops have to come, anyway, to file a report and everything...the safest thing to do is not to drive in any condition where you wouldn't want to be seen by authorities....
I was in a cadillac a while back, when onstar first came out. The shit scares me. I'm on the phone with the guy, and he's like, "Theres a chili's to your left, a target behind you. Your caddy-cornered to the *** apartment complex." (*don't remember the name of the complex) I really did'nt like it. It's too personal. I don't like that they can can just open my car either. It's gonna end up like the garage door thing, i can see it yet
they can record your conversations but its illegal for them to use any info. obtained with it to criminalize you or anybody in your car
i still don't want them to hear what i say even if they can't incriminate me with it. its none of there business what i say in my car or anywhere else.
Plus if that shit can remotely unlock your car I'd say it can lock it too.. How long until cops can lock your ass in and turn off your car remotely?
"Let's go to Bobby, he just got a pound." "No, lets go to Sue, she's selling good stuff for only $50/oz" They can not use this against you or your unnamed companion, but Bobby and Sue are screwed.
