Depends, how long is a piece of string? Apparently you can dread any kind of hair.

we're one in the same, my friend. well the longer your hair is the better because the more hair is getting pushed back to form knots when backcombing. with short hair only a little bit of hair is being pushed back to knot up so yea, i have kinda thin blong hair, but i dont know, i tried it once when my hair was short and i did it all wrong and it made my hair really frizzy, which it never was before so be advised. it really depends on how thin your hair is. but yea, you really have to want to get 'em, if your not absolutely sure you want to have them, or keep them, but dreads are great and sexy once they lock up. so it really matters how thin you hair is, but worse case senerio you just have thin dreads. ok man hope i help. i wish you much luck in your dreading process or not, and in life in general. much love

my sister told me to use hair spray to start my dreads she said to put rubberbands at the tip of my hair and and backcomb and all that stuff but is hairspray any good for me i just dont see how my hair is going to lock up if i dont use wax or hairspray i know no wax i really just want really healthy dreads.
    peace

patience is the key..i dont inderstand all this talk about wax & back combing & all that mine started when my hair was just 3 inches long, some we had put some beads in, others just formed naturaly
the first several months i just used bar soap like ivory or whatever untill they started forming..
then just keep seperating em so they dont grow together
the key is patience dont be in a hurry..dresads take time..but will last a lifetime
mine started at 32 inches but are past my knees now & i never had to do anything special to em (but my hairs extremely thick)
