Do vaporizers really work are they effective? Can feel a similar type of high compared to a pipe? Or is it better?

Absolutely. Also keep in mind that they almost totally eliminate all carcinogenic material from the smoke. It's healthier and cleaner. MAPS has done a few good studies on this. Too bad the really good vaporizers are so expensive... the cheap ones do vaporize a little, but they also do burn the material to some extent. Combustion = carcinogens.

A vaporizer basically heats the material to the point of vaporization, where the psychoactive chemicals are released without burning, or combusting, the plant material.

Thus there is very little byproduct of combustion, such as benzene, carbon monoxide, toluene, naphthalene, or tars (all of which you inhale in measurable quantities when you smoke). The expensive, high-quality vaporizers (like your friend's Volcano) significantly reduce the toxic components of smoke, and dramatically increase the ratio of released THC.

Here's a link to a MAPS study that I think you will find to be very informative:

    I love my vape.
This first time I hit one, I was expecting the harshness of the smoke, but it wasn't there.
I expected seeing smoke when I exhaled; there was none. I thought I hadn't even taken a hit.
    And then POW!

The most significant hit I have ever taken in 37 years of smoking pot was a drop of honey topping a bowl on NorCal's finest buddage, in a vape.
1 hit and I was baked fo hours.

I have a Silver Surfer Vaporizer. It works great...but VERY rarely i do get a bit of combustion cuz i inhale too slowly or something. the vapor is wayyyyyyyy smoother than smoking. It cost my a pretty bundle, $160, but i think it's definately worth it, especially for college or if u want to smoke in your house without ur parents knowing. it barely leaves any smell. I smoked with the door to my room open and my brother was in his room, right across from mine, with his door open. He never realized i was smoking. Some people say it uses less reefer...which i guess is kinda true, but i haven't noticed too much of a differance

Vapourizers can be great but they can also be crap. If you're going to buy one it is definitely worth it to save and purchase one of the more expensive ones like the volcano. The cheap ones will vapourize but you will waste a lot of pot. I know cause I have one, heh it's been sitting in my closet collecting dust for a year.
