Okay, so I'll be graduating from my homeschool program very shortly. Now, just recently the school I do homeschool through has changed their college prep (my path) curriculum. They went from the OLD program, which I am on, to a NEW program. The difference is: Old program: 13 Credits, 4 English, 2 Math, 2 Science, 3 Social Science, 1 Elective New Program: 22 Credits, 4 English, 4 Math, 3 Science, 3 Social Study, 2 Foreign Language, 6 Electives Most colleges seem to want, from a highschool student : 4 English, 4 Math (including geometry, and algebra 2), 3 Science, 3 Social Science, and SATs. I dont have that. My question, for anyone who knows, is as follows: 1) Should I just finish up, graduate my homeschool now, and ATTEMPT to get into a state university, even though I dont entirely match the requirements? Could I still get in based on SAT scores, Essay, and GPA? 2) Should I instead just go to a local technical college, take my CORE classes, and transfer over to a state University? 3) OR - Should I pay an extra 200 bucks, and Enroll in the 22 credit program, which seems as if it would make me more elligible to go directly to a state university. My parents are pretty stupid when it comes to this stuff, and I have no one to really go to for help. I'm thinking of calling the admission department of a few colleges and seeing which route would be best? Anyone have any ideas?
I would gather more info and call the schools that you are wanting to get into to find out what you need.
Our experience has been that colleges LOVE homeschoolers, because they tend to have a good work/study ethic. I suggest contacting the schools you want to apply to, tell them the situation, and see what they suggest. You may be plesantly surprised!
I'd definitely contact a few of the colleges you might be interested in and ask for help. Also, you mentioned that you don't really have much help dealing with this kind of thing - you might want to check out www.destination-u.com. The website helps you find the right college for you and will give you all the help you need throughout the whole process. Especially valuable if your parents don't know how to help. And good luck!
