    Hello,
recently i went to the doctor for chest pain and a swelling burning feeling in my throat...he had diagnosed me with Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD). Which means, acid from my stomach is getting up into my esophagus and swells my throat. I've been prescribed some Cimetidine, (used for ulcers and heartburn and what not) which should probably help bring the pain down. But my question is, what types of food (if anyone knows) should I be eating or avoiding to help?
I know that I shouldnt have any caffeine, or alcohol, or any food with a high ammount of acidity (tomato, citrus)..
But what else can I do to speed up the process of my recovery from this. (I've never had this before, and I've supposedly gotten it from stress.)
Is there also any natural remedies for this? I'd be interested in alternatives, or anything that will help the pain and settle it down. Or even anyone that can relate to me, so I know I'm not alone. Thanks for any advice.
    Peace and good health!

I'm not too sure on remedies, but also try to avoid chocolate, fatty foods, onions and peppermint/spearmint - they stimulate acid secretion in your tummy. And avoid lying down straight after eating. Take antacids 30-60mins before you eat to neutralise the acid already in your stomach.

I've never had it, but the tiger at the zoo i work at has his meat minced to avoid gastric reflux.

I'd say that if stress caused it, make sure u take time out to relax.

there is a little vaulve above the appendix that gets stuck open sometimes and lets in already dijested food. It seeps in and defiles the flora, making for a putred concoction. This inflames the tissue in your stomach and causes it to burn.
You can reach down under your last rib,on your right side, with your finger tips and push in and pull up at the same time. It will (hopefully) close this vaulve. It may take a little practise but it works.
You can also drink a little Aloe Vera juice a few times a day and your tummy and throat will be healed. You can buy Aloe Vera Juice at Wal-mart or a health food store.
    Best of health to you.

Thanks!! I'm starting to feel better , I havent been drinking or smoking. I suppose being sick is helping me become more aware of what I put into my body. Take care all!

I remember hearing people talk of using apple cider vinegar to cure things relative to GERD. My aunt learned about it reading some book and I faintly remember hearing her discuss it at a family dinner. Anyway, I don't know too much about it but I found a site about it
