Ideal Communism means the best quality of life for everyone. Eliminate discriminatory merit. It's just a delusion. Everybody deserves the very best. So here's how to drive like an Ideal Communist. (Not only is this post aimed at being morally and politically instructive. It's serving me as an escape valve for noxious emotions generated by dealing with brainless vehicle operators. Brainless operators who nonetheless deserve the very best.) So for those with a brain here's the basic concept you have to master. This concept was introduced to me by my high school physics teacher in ...1969 the year of Woodstock... Imagine a long line of cars stopped at a red light. Each driver looks at the car in front of him. Each driver starts to move only when the car in front of him starts to move. So when the light turns green the first car starts to move THEN the second car THEN the third car ... and it takes a progressively longer time for a car way back in the line to start moving the further back it is. NOW suppose each driver looked not just at the car in front of him but also at the traffic light itself. There is always a little space between the cars. With care not to hit the vehicle ahead each driver could with caution start moving as soon as the light turned green. The whole line of cars then would start moving en masse -- at the same time -- instead of this "one then two then three" chain reaction effect. And it would save a lot of time and more cars would get through the light and it would be better for everybody. That's the basic concept. And it can be used at red lights. You just have to be careful of the car in front of you. All things being equal the sooner you start moving when the signal turns green the better for you and everyone behind you. BUT it's not primarily at red lights that this basic concept concerns me. Where it concerns me most is in heavytraffic/gridlock situations. And here's what everyone needs to use their brain to understand. In heavy traffic/gridlock situations the whole idea is to KEEP MOVING. Because if you have to stop it causes a chain reaction for all the cars behind you and another chain reaction for them all to get started again and all THAT consumes tons of time. Because of the one-two-three chain reaction effect explained above. AND it consumes tons more ENERGY to stop all those cars and get them moving again. If you don't believe me just go out and try to push a car at rest. (Please do not try to stop a moving car.) (Factoid: Each car uses so much energy that it's the equivalent of an ELECTRICAL UTILITY capable of serving a number of average homes... Also: A Ford Explorer et al driven 20k miles puts out about 10 TONS -- that's right about twenty THOUSAND pounds -- of CO2 into the atmosphere. So Bush can feel all cozy warm. Think about it.) BUT...to KEEP MOVING there's a KEY ELEMENT. Here's the important part. To KEEP MOVING in heavy traffic/gridlock situations you have to L E A V E S P A C E between your vehicle and the vehicle in front of you so you don't have to come to a stop every time the guy in front of you puts on his brakes. The closer you follow the more often you'll have to STOP. And that starts a wasteful chain reaction. That's the key: to leave space. Because the closer you follow the vehicle ahead of you the more you're going to have to slam on your brakes and stop everytime he does and that's what causes these time and energy consuming chain reactions. When I'm in a near gridlock barely moving I leave LOTS (proportional to the situation) of space between my vehicle and the guy ahead and people who behind me who are brainless follow 2 inches from my back bumper and get all bent out of shape and as soon as they can they go around me in a dither -- and come to a complete stop in about 100 feet like the complete idiots they are. Call it Karma. Fact is these poor folks are fucking BRAINLESS. AND when two lines of traffic have to merge into one what do you think is the key to keep traffic moving and to prevent time wasting chain reactions? That's right it's the same thing: LEAVE SPACE between vehicles that way the two lines can smootly merge together just like the way a ZIPPER works. Nobody has to come to a stop and no wasteful chain reactions. But OH NO Mr. Revenge, Mr. Discriminatory Merit feels like he has to follow right on the tail of the car ahead so some cheater doesn't come up from behind and sneak in. Well I don't like cheaters either but this just leads to perpetual fights and chain reactions at the point of merger and wastes time for everybody. Just let the cheater jerk do his thing because in these situations this is what's best for everybody. Voila there you have it Communist Driving. The best for everybody. Just like in society as a whole. Think in terms of what's best for everybody. The Big Picture. Cooperation instead of competition. Use your brain.
Actually what's wrose si te amount of one driver cars on the road. Its really bad for the environment.
This stuff is all important it's good you're concerned about it. Interesting that you mention Hugo Chavez it seems like not many people are paying much attention to Venezuela they should be real social progress is being made. It's where the action is.
yeh, i am worried by the amount of conservatives on this site. i'd always viewed hippies as very progressive people. The criticizim of venezueal in paticular alarms me.
Lots of Venezulans purchasing real estate in south Florida. Its an early sign of real trouble as the political rights of the country are slowly being taken away. Its helping the housing boom in Miami. It seems like you always know where there is trouble in the world because those are the places new immigrants are arriving from.
OR u always know something good's happening in a country when all the people who can afford 2 buy real estate in florida piss off
your govt was founded on the rights of the individual rich white slave owner not to pay taxes 2 king george in england. most individuals weren't allowed 2 vote in this valhalla of sacred individuality.
This raises an important point. The purpose of a right is to keep an individual from being compromised by others. But the importance of one person not being compromised is just as great as that of another. It's no good to prevent harm to Person A if in doing so one causes an equivalent amount of harm to Person B. Therefore the matter of rights only makes sense in a comparative context. That means with consideration for others which means on an equal basis which means -- you guessed it -- for the welfare or betterment, as you put it, of the entire society. Otherwise obviously you just end up with a society where some have rights and some none and that's shit. Which speaks to problems if not in the nation's founding (as kindly pointed out by james q) then certainly in its unfolding.
I refer you back to what I said. Give it more thought. Rights are worthless outside of equality because then some have no rights.
i think what slutter mcgee wants 2 tell us is: "self-o best-o bugger all the rest-o" but he's too educated 2 say so.
