I wrote a short letter to DARE to give them a big f you in the A.... but hey.. dont let my hog all the glory, send em a note yourself and join in! Mine Reads: +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Ok, my name is Erin, I am currently 15 years old. I took dare from 4th-6th grade, and even wont the award for the best Essay after each year. Now that I am 15, I looked into real sceinfical facts about Marijuana and other drugs, and compared to what was told by my DARE officer. And was appauled. Marijuana does hardly any damage to the brain or any organ for that matter. I have tried Marijuana and am a supporter of decriminalization. I am also now a member of NORML. I just wanna say thanks for feeding me so much false information, to give me the smarts to learn that this country obviously wants to get their messege to the kids at a young age. I cant believe you guys took advantage of me, just because I was a kid and didnt know any better. In fact it makes me sick. You have the nerve to bring in Oregeno and say its Weed, and the nerve to bring in breath mints and say its MDMA? Like I said... it makes me sick that you find a way to corrupt the youth and fixate in their head the missleading LIES about drugs. And I read the poems from kids that are taking DARE now. You think drugs are just Crack, Heroin, Opiates, Marijuana, and all narcotics? Well it isnt, drugs are Tylonol, Cough Medicine, and all those kinds of product, all things kids are taking today as children... what if that knew that? What if they knew every time they had a cough and took medicine, they were doing drugs? Not so drug free as we all think now huh? Thanks for reading this, if you even did. -Erin (and feel free to respond to me at the adress givin)
What I agree with is them just introducing it. Granted repeating what each letter stood for in the word out loud as a class to a cop served absolutely no fuckin purpose except to warp it into virgin memories, it is bascially preparing youngins for what they might -and all too often- run in to and have problems with. At some point, children will be introduced to drugs. So why not do it in a controlled environment where you know the outcome isn't going to be a bullet in your spine or even overdosing?
If you want them to take you seriously, fix the grammar. Thats just proof that the herb is fucking up your brain.
Seriously, were you high when you wrote that? Please spellcheck and proofread that, it isn't very well written. And besides, what do you hope to accomplish with this letter? It's like an atheist writing to Jerry Falwell or something: it won't do any good and will just piss them off...which might be fun, but it isn't productive. You aren't going to change the organization's mind on drugs. You'd do slightly better to write to your school (or school board/council), who has the choice of doing these DARE programs or not. You could appeal to their sense of true education, rather than having them just be stooges for the establishment. I'm all for educating kids about drugs, but not with propoganda. You should try to sound more reasonable in your letter. I mean, it's not a bad thing for kids to learn about drugs, but it's not helpful to be comparing marijuana to heroin. You're right that the anti-drug mentality is extremely hypocritical, given that America is the most drugged nation in history, with our pharmeceuticals. I'd bet good money that every anti-drug person, every DARE freak has a cupboard full of asprin and prescription drugs at home. But that's not my main point. My main point here is, like I said, the need for honest, accurate, and unbiased information about drugs, not DAREish propoganda. Such propoganda is a disservice to children.
of course, they're going to think you're just a dumb stoner and that you haven't learned how to spell properly because you're too busy getting high all the time!
i dont know a single 15 year old with proper grammar... but yea he brings up some points... even if he did do it more professionally, DARE would have probably ignored him.
I am 15, and I beleive that my grammar is beautiful. =) Strange you posted that, considering I just finished writing them a letter. I did not even think twice about posting it here. Well, if they responed, it will hopefully contain my original along with a resonse. I will be sure to post if that is the case. But yes, it kind of ruins the point of arguing that is has no negative side effects mentally...when you have an error in almost every sentance. Not trying to flame you, but I really doubt that they will think twice about that letter.
i admire the confidence you hold for your writing. however, you still have obvious problems with spelling and perhaps more minor issues with commas and proper syntax. you are, after all, rather young so you'll have plenty of time to work on it. peace
