there are so many coffeeshops, you will be amazed, i don't know which to recommend. I suggest you do your RLD visit and then occupy yourself with tht rest of the place. and there will be a coffeeshop everywhere you go. places to see would be the waterloo plein markt, the albert cuyp, some museums (torture museum, sex museum, hemp museum - all tourist traps but what the hell - you're a tourist), rent a bike ( couple of euros a day). i think a bike is the way to go. roll one up, ride about.
uh oh... you are recommending a tourist to smoke and ride a bike through amsterdam? heheh.. think I'll stay indoors for the next couple of days Just a side note: officially it's not allowed to smoke openly on the streets (on a bike or not). It's the same as drinking alcohol in the streets.. you can get a fine (sp?) for this.. toking peacefully in a park or sth is no problem usually though.
