http://www.mooncup.co.uk/wc.php?u=452 That explains it better than I can. I'm having a bit of a problem with mine today :& just wondered whether anyone on here used one and could offer any advice They are great though in general.
You mean tampons? They are much better, safer, re-useable and you can keep them in longer. I never noticed mine was there (until a bit earlier-but I think its a problem with me).
no, not tampons. tampons are fine with me. I meant those sea sponges. I seriously believe that they are a bit difficult to clean, because period-blood is always kind of thick, and has "pieces" in it. So just from a normal tampon user's point of view, a mooncup could actuall be an alternative, because it is a lot more hygienic then the sponges.
I don't know what the sponges are. I bought the mooncup for the reasons I said, but especially for re-use and because they are safe. They are very easy to clean - I don't think I'd like to use anything that wasn't.
sponges are for re-use too. They work like tampons, but come out of the ocean. http://lunapads.com/products/sea_sponge_tampons/ I usually stay out of these discussions. This is a very personal subject and i would say, to each her own. there are way worse ways of pullutions than tampons, which are made out of cotton anyway. But the mooncup really seemed to be a good alternative for me. I'll think about it, maybe I am going to use one.....
I personally have just started using the luna sponges, and i think they are amazing! If you clean them with cold water then warm water there are no problems with the different consistancies of the blood. It feels so much more natural, i used to always be aware when i was wearing a tampon and they made me really dry and uncomfortable, now i don't have a problem at all. They make me feel like a Goddess! With love Uma x
I use the mooncup and it is absolutely brilliant! It is so good to not be causing even more waste to the planet by disposing sooo many pads and tampons and stuff. I also find it much healthier... Blegh... But it is true that this is something very personal to the individual... Love, Sunny xxx
You mean inside a mooncup? They are quite big - you just need to empty them twice a day. I think if they got full they would probably leak and you'd be reminded! I can't see anyone forgetting about one for that long. Maybe you should email them and see what they say.
Actually, second thoughts - you probably would email them wouldn't you? I don't think its such a good idea.
OK, you might not think it is appropriate for me to post on this subject, but as an experienced microbiologist I would like to advise that although the add says that this device is not associated with "toxic shock syndrome" it is very important that the device be cleaned as directed. If you are not aware of the problem with the discontinued "super absorbent tampons" they were designed to be left in place for long periods allowing time for bacteria that were present to incubate, grow and release toxins that cause very serious problems and could lead to sterility. I obviously have no opinion other than to say that proper emptying/cleaning is of utmost importnce for the safe use of this device. So, if you are camping, etc. or in an environment which limits the proper cleaning you would want to think twice. Ok, now I will get lost...
I think most women are aware when buying something like the mooncup of the dangers of toxic shock syndrome as the mooncup almost eliminates the problem if used correctly and its a good reason for buying one. Mine gets sterilised before each use and a thorough cleansing during use. Its the women who still use tampons blissfully unaware of toxic shock syndrome that should be made aware of it. Many haven't got a clue.
i didnt have a clue about the cup thing or the sponges, i think i have been living in a cardboard box or something. but what a good idea, they make alot of sense, and as groovy said as long as they are cleaned properly then they should be ok. interesting xxx
I lurve my Mooncup!! Coming up to my third cycle and I don't grumble about periods anymore! Well, unless the cramps are really bad... I lurve my Mooncup!
i use something called a DIVA CUP and i LOVE it!! same type of thing, a wee plastic cup which fills up with all the menstrul fluids. doing some vaginal toning ensures that it remains a tight fit. easy to use, easy to clean. wow!! cannot believe i used tampons for so long. i also love it because it doesnt take away any of my natural lubrication like having a wad of cotton in me for 5 days.
keeper chica here. Close enough that I'd think all the cups have the basic premise and problems. What problems were you having? My problem is hurrying and not getting that last twist in to seal the cup. on cleaning, thanks for the care. One will wash these well simply because ...well... one can tell by smell they have been used (not a bad smell, just different) I use real soap, not detergent daily, rinse each time (carry a water bottle or get a couple paper towels really wet for this) and a disinfectant soak as mine cannot be boiled. Although, water boils at 202 at this altitude...wonder if that's enough of a difference to allow a boil sterilization?
I bought a moon cup about a month ago and now tried it for the first time. well, that is I tried it about three times and always ended up taking it out again cause it felt uncomfortable, even though I think that I put it in the right place. It just seems a bit big, it's about three times the diameter of a tampon! Also it kinda feels like air gets trapped inside the cup. Maybe it's psychological but I am quite unhappy with it and not sure if I will try it again. Do you guys have any tips for me, or similar experiences? Cause if this doesn't work the next time I'll just stick to my tampons, methinks. Help!
