I really really really liked 'On the road'. But in 'Big Sur' he is only whining. 'Dharma Bums' is boring And the rest I still have to read. What do you think. Is Kerouac after 'on the road' better or worse writer.
Ehh...I can't get through Big Sur. I don't know, I've never cared for Kerouac's work. It bores me, and he seems like a fake.
Dharma Bums was my favorite Kerouac novel. On The Road not quite as good for me, but still inspiring. I'm quite a fan.
Big Sur is one of the most depressing books I've ever read. Dharma Bums is probably my favorite Kerouac book. I liked Tristessa a lot, too. It's one you seldom see mentioned. I was a huge Kerouac fan for a while. His writings had a major impact on my life, but now I'm over him. I can't get into his books anymore for a variety of reasons. The big thing that bothers me about his stuff now is what a piece of shit the guy was. On the surface he's the tragically cool beat extraordinaire, but when you dig deeper you learn what a messed-up asshole he was. He was horrible to his wives, friends, and daughter. There's some speculation that he slept with his mom, too.
Visions of Cody is a sad one too...... it's based on Kerouac's little brother.... I liked Dharma Bums just as much as i liked On the Road.... i can't really think of a bad Kerouac book, to tell you the truth
i too loved Dharma bums! and i enjoyed the subterranians too. on the road is an essential book. the thing i find with kerouac, is that he does tend to wander, and this makes for much determination to just finish the damn thing. not like other books, which you cannot put down. but the lasting impression i get from his novels, is that of insight, and realism. i havent read any others, but i dont think i would turn it down.
