Something interesting or quirky about your ancestors.... the further back you can go if possible :D Just curious about stuff like this, it's interesting.

Back in early 1900 (1903/04ish), my ancestors lived in a hill. I kid you not, they dug out part of a hill on their land and lived there for quite a few years. Personally, I'm amazed they found a hill big enough for that (this happened in Saskatchewan, prairies and flat land)

My father was the son of murdered Polish monarchs. The person who adopted him (my "grandfather") was the head of the KGB in Lithuania.

um, my grandma used to intercept messages in morse code during WWII, she lived in a specially designed house full of women that all did the same. If NZ was ever invaded they were under strict instructions to kill themselves so that they didn't release any information

My Great grandfather was born in Hownam Grange, Scotland... and no, he had no blue swirls tatooed anywhere. He immigrated after marriage to Canada, and settled in Saskatchewan.

Some years later he heard about this niffty club in the US, composed of a lot of Scottish immigrants... they even called the clans by burning crosses! He thought it sounded wonderful. So he started his own chapter.

By doing so, my great-grandfather went on the record as being the first Grand Dragon in Saskatchewan history. After establishing the KKK, he left the organization. He hadn't done the research, and thought the KKK was a Gentlemans Club. Oops! He actually was a really nice man... and he also built and was the only teacher at the first school in the region!

Thats a wonderful story! Poor guy, i could see where the confusion would come in.

What a shame it is that the klan took so many highland traditions such as the cross burning, and turned it so negative.

    Thanks for sharing that.

My family immigrated to North Carolina, from Skye, some went to New Zeland, including the chiefs son. The clan fell apart, and all the land was forfeit to the British goverment. Sucks.

The old family farm in Iowa was a stop on the Underground Railroad, complete with hidden rooms in the barn loft. I always thought that was one of the cooler things a family could have in their history.

My grandfather was excused from serving in the military during ww2 because he was working for a firm on fuel that would power the Apollo rockets. That always amazed me, for when I knew him he was just an average old guy who like to garden!

  12. one of my ancestors helped to rape edward the second up the ass with a white hot poker and then changed the pronunciation of his name and moved to france

more recently my grandparents divorced and remarried 16 times........

I am not homophobic, and I probably will not be getting married......... I do not want to make those mistakes..... I'll make my own thank you very much.... and they'll be something I can talk about in a nice restaraunt without getting glared at.....

Hmm.. nothing really interesting. My dad's multiple greats grandfather was one of the first to immigrate to the Massachusetts Bay colony with Winthrop's Fleet in 1630 from Canterbury, England. His family was also among those who helped to found Harvard University (then a seminary school).

On that same side of the family, Lizzie Borden is my cousin. Her uncle who was visiting her home when she murdered her father and step mother, John Morse, was my great great great great grandfather. He was also a major suspect in the case for awhile until he secured an alibi.

On my mom's side of the family, there's nothing much that we really know of because from my great-grandparents on, all my family was basically the Fiddler on the Roof type breed of Ukrainian Jews.

My great great grandparents on my mothers side were killed in Alabama during a fight with Muskogee indians who attacked their fort. They were traders with the Creek Indians there, but were still victim in the attacks.

And my grand-grandfather was a bulgarian revolutionist who was fighting against the Turkish Empire. In the year of 1915 he fell in ambush but he didn't surrender and he died as a hero!

    LONG LIVE BULGARIA!!!!!!!
