What was accomplished in the 60's...... The SIXTIES were an exciting, revolutionary, turbulent time of great social and technological change: assassination, unforgettable fashion, new musical styles, Camelot, civil rights, gay and women's liberation, a controversial and devisive war in Vietnam, the first manned landing on the moon, peace marches, World's Fairs, flower power, great TV and film and sexual freedom. What resulted from it..... We are here to make a better world. No amount of rationalization or blaming can preempt the moment of choice each of us brings to our situation here on this planet. The lesson of the 60's is that people who cared enough to do right could change history. We didn't end racism but we ended legal segregation. We ended the idea that you could send half-a-million soldiers around the world to fight a war that people do not support. We ended the idea that women are second-class citizens. We made the environment an issue that couldn't be avoided. The big battles that we won cannot be reversed. We were young, self-righteous, reckless, hypocritical, brave, silly, headstrong and scared half to death. And we were right. Abbie Hoffman this was from a site called happy hippie dot com and it is true without us who knows what the world would be like i mean yeah, the world really needs some major changes and cleaning up, but look at all we've accomplished and you know if we did something more like we used to do, the world would be way better so we really need to try to make changes for the better again so think about it next when you read this and try to make a change tim aka winter fang p.s. please post www.happyhippie.com
I think Abie Hoffman contributed a great deal to the betterment of U.S. society by disrupting the 1968 Democratic National Convention in Chicago - & offering to meet & make peace terms with Ho Chi Minh in 1969. Even Pete Townshend has stated that he now regrets that he pushed Abie Hoffman off the stage at Woodstock. He has said that Rock n'Roll means nothing comparable with people trying to live their lives in peace. The 1960s was the first decade of the twentieth-century that challenged a Protestant Ethic/Victorian Morality /order & sense of values in both the U.S.A. & Europe that had existed for 200 years. That you didn't have to go to war & kill women & children to protect your values. That the young were no less empowered with wisdom than their elders. That hard work & penitence did not necesarily make you free. I think that many of 1960s struggles remain un-fulfilled; & that the 1960s can actually help us with the problems we will face in the future.
