i JUST got a job teaching high school english! whooo hoo! it's been a trip... at any rate, last year i was an art teacher and therefore did not have to worry too much about wardrobe issues. this year i need to look more professional, like a teacher. i don't really know how to do this. my hair is always messy, so i can't pull off funky clothing so well, but i really dislike conservative clothing. so i was thinking of making a bunch of cool pants, with 'workish' fabrics like pinstripes and plaids, but making em bell out and stuff. what do you think about this? i'm really stretching here...i have no shoes, nothing. i'm also gonna go out and buy a blazer and a pair of khaki pants. what do you guys wear to look professional? what costume shall i assemble? i'm quite clueless about this type of thing.
is it a requisite for your job? some of the best teachers i ever had didn't give a flying hoot about 'looking the part' and just dressed as themselves. the only math teacher i ever had that helped me understand anything about math (i'm so math-challenged) came to class dressed in gym clothes every day. anyway, does the school require you to dress a certain way? if not, i wouldn't stress about it. be yourself -z
Get yourself some nice linen skirts or pants and some solid color top..i seriously wouldn't go all crazy with the 'stiff' clothing when you can go for comfort and still be stylie. I like this: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=53164&item=5405681388&rd=1 and I LOVE this: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=11556&item=5406840622&rd=1 With a top like this: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=63868&item=5405322970&rd=1 or this: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=63868&item=5406361202&rd=1
Congrats on the job! That is a big accomplishment I just have to say i think what you call "conservative" clothing is way under rated. They sell pants that are pin stripe and plaid and that are definetly a wide legged trouser. The clothing that is "in style" right now is really hip. I have also known alot of teachers to wear broomstick skirts or linen skirts that you may find at a thrift store... I've never had a female teacher really dress up before....i've seen male teachers wear button down shirt and tie...but as far as what u call "conservative" dress, i've never really seen female teachers do it...meaning 3 piece suits...maybe only college professors... btw...a 3 piece suit can be very sharp and is way underrated...u can split it up mix and match...wear the skirt or the slacks or just the coat w/ jeans..i dunno..maybe i'm too much into fashion !! anyhow... good luck w / ur new career!
I like fitted corduroy jackets. They make you look like an authority I have to dress up when I substitute teach so I don't look like one of the students hehe.
yeah! some great ideas. i'm feeling a bit less crazy now as i've had some hours to digest this whole 'i'm an english teacher' thing.
yeah, my work is kinda businessy....i went to old navy and got a bunch of capris and hippie skirts they had and plain shirts and i dress it all up with my jewelry and such that combined with the array of skirts i have....you can do it and congrats. that is so wonderful
I work with kids but am an administrator so i have to look professional. I find that ballet flats work really well and they go well with everything. cotton or linen suits work really well fopr the summer. i would try the gap or bananarepublic or their outlet stores. congrats on your job!
