Hello. When I was a kid growing up I was always too shy to really participate in the music classes when it came to singing... now im all older and ish and I wanna learn to sing... what is the best way to really learn to hire some sort of teacher or is it possible to learn and become better on your own? If you smoke, how does that effect singing vocals? =p
Just curious about maybe learning to sing...

listen to brittney spears she smokes.. LOL>. Take private lessons so your voice can become stronger.. UMm smoking isnt a good idea by the way. YOu need to keep your vocal chords healthy if you want to use them. You should drink lots of water.. lol.. ok ill shut up..

there is a few ways you can teacher yourself. Ive been wanting to learn how to sing too and I've been thinking of ways to improve. I've been teaching myself how to sing just by hitting notes on a guitar or piano and matching my voice to it and just by singing along to my favorite tunes. It's working pretty well so far, but its best to have a vocal teacher if you want it to be perfect.

Vocal lessons would be a good idea, they teach you how to start at the basics... like breathing. I use to take music classes in school and wish I would have stuck with it.

It's good to have a place where you don't have to worry about others listening in too much on your practicing. I think singing along to music on the stereo is a good thing, when I was a kid I used to go "AAHH" and follow the pitch of the boat motor when the family was out driving.

Try to to get a sound that feels good in your throat and work from there. If you're feeling stupid and silly, try to shake those feelings and ask yourself who cares (or who's buisness it is anyway)? Key thing is not to strain your voice, like you're better off with small weights when you start bodybuilding sort of translates here.
Start off soft and work on the pitch and your ear, move in small steps and have patience! :)

To join a choir is also cool if you can stand the people there. And finally, vocal lessons, but they're not cheap and there's no guarantee that you'll be satisfied with the result. Start a vocal band with some good friends instead! :)

    don't smoke!!!

Britney used that for a small time period to make her voice deeper when she was younger but she quit because it will continue to damage the vocal chords.

I know, I used to have a wonderful singing voice. I could have done a lot with my voice. I travelled with a vocal choir for years while I was in school.

but after a few years of smoking pot, and as I started smoking more, my voice got deeper and crappier. Now I can carry a tune but it doesn't sound that great (IMO compared to what it used to be)

and that's just pot. I can't imagine what long term use of cigs could do!

probably not..i'd avoid smoking if u really are passionate about learning to sing..

i mean lets face the facts..smoking anything damages your body..i'm not saying smoking bud is bad..but i myself, have quit smoking ciggs and pot to better myself , my life, and my health...i think it was a wise choice..and suprisingly easier than i thought!

anyhow, i say singing along w/ ur favorite music and not so favorite music can really help more than anything..do it everyday..and try to mimic the vocalists...

u need to learn how to breathe .. it's key..read up on the net...

    join a choir

    take lessons

and slow down on the smoking if ur really wanting to be good at this..

    anyone can learn to sing..
