    ahhh......shit! they deserved it!

Props to Portugal, they completely dominated the game...

Enlgand were playing like shit on both ends... I have never seen more goal attempts then those by Portugal, Enlgand game them so much fucken space.

Rooney the pussy, the should have put some painkiller on his foot, the little ****.. pisses me off...

Owen showed no presence after the goal...

    Props to Portugal again...

James should be fucken shot for his performance in the penelties... who the fuck dives before the player shoots?

Backham.... no words... such a disappointment...

    Beautiful Costa goal....

Portugal will go far here, I love that team... but not as much as Enlgand :(

At least Holland is still in it...

Portugal deserved to win, England played like shit and I do not like defensive teams in general.
    Congratulations to our Portugese friends!

Tomorrow France against Greece, it would be great if Greece could make it but I doubt it.

And I think we know who the loser of the tournament is going to be playerwise:
    Beckham....

I just watched the game at a Tokyo bar, and I'm disappointed that England didn't win. But Portugal did deserve to win, as they dominated the game and more aggressive in attack than England. But I do think the goal by Sol Campbell should have counted.

No, it was a clear foul, he took down his teammate and the player with the same hand, they showed the play from a reverse angle, and it was clear.

I also hope that Greece could win, but that's doubtful.

So Portugal scrape through on penalties despite being a goal behind for the entire game. Also, despite the fact that England won the game 2-1 but had a perfectly valid goal disallowed. The Portuguese goalie ran into Campbell then took a dive. The referee was halfway down the pitch, so what he thought he saw I don't know, but the replay shows there was no pushing. Shocking decision...

    We woz robbed!

Yes, I've got to agree, Portugal did deserve to win, even though the Sol Campell goal was SO not a foul! I watched the game on the huge screens in the centre of Birmingham City Centre, England and we didn;t realise the goal didn't stand and were dancing for quite a while after, oh how shocked we felt. Oh well, well done Potugal and good lck for the rest of the tournement.

They dominated the second half, yeah - I actually thought England were playing great after their early goal in the first half. We really missed Rooney though - apparently he broke a bone in his foot so it's not fair to say he should have carried on! He tried to carry on for a few minutes but was clearly in pain and was taken to hospital as soon as he came off.

Even though Portugal dominated the second half, we defended well, but waaay too deep so they just kept coming back! The score shows how little there was in it in the end - two goals each (plus the unfairly disallowed England goal) after extra time then Portugal win by ONE penalty kick! That's football I suppose... The home side have a good chance of winning now.

I think France will just about manage to beat Greece tonight.

*edit* Wayne Rooney snapped a bone in his foot and will be out of action for six weeks according to this Reuters article.

Agree with you Showmet that England defended way to deep, I think that maybe the defence does not have total confidence in David James (not sure that I do). Poor Sol Campbell, he was terrific, and I think that is the second time he has had a perfectly good goal disallowed in a championship.

Penalties are very exciting, but they are such a harsh way to lose.........

Still well done Portugal ! your goalkeeper was awesome! I do not think that you will win the tournament, but you did deserve to beat us, we really did not perform last night.

Don't know who to support now. I haven't seen all the matches, and no one looks outstanding, I would like to see Sweden do well, and as a Thierry Henry appreciator, I could support France ?

By the way I heard a different version of why Sol Campbells goal was disallowed on Radio 5 today, someone rang in and said that the whistle went before Sol Campbell and John Terry jumped, and the foul given was for Sol Campbell initially pushing in the area, feel this one will run and run and run....

Looking on the bright side at least I will be able to watch the rest of the matches without that terrible feeling of tension I get when England are on the pitch!

England lost all skill after Rooney left. The only time I saw England actually gaining control was the end of the 1st ET and the end of the 2nd ET.

But yes, the defense was illogicly deep, it frustrated me... I wouldn't trust James either, but, at one point, all the team other than Owen was inside the area, trying to kick a ball out. I couldn't take the way they let Portugal freely take corners, and have easy passes... which eventually led to the first goal.

Amazing! France going out to Greece means that a lacklustre Holland actually have a chance of winning the tournament! Although I fancy a Sweden v Czech Republic final. Come on you Czechs!

PS. sorry to moonydancer, but I write France as France rather than France because their strip is dominated by blue, not blue white and red!:p

When you say "we", do you mean Denmark then? cuz I have noticed you before here at the forum, and I was thinking to myself: "I wonder if that's a dane or a dutch."

-No the czechs are strong and intelligent this year. They could possible win the championship, I think.

-I agree, that our strength is not only at the defence at sunday, but it's the first time for many years that Denmark don't play defensive. The czechs are very aggresive. But on the other hand, the danes are more offensive than defensive this year, compared to how they've been the past 10 years. And I think the danes have sucess this year, excactly because they have skipped their defensive strategy (or/and mentality..?)

    And btw:
It's wonderful that Portugal won (sorry that I changed side, migle;)), and it's wonderful that Greece won. Smaller countries RULE!!! :D

    I am Dutch.

Today was a bad match and Greece actually deserved to win. Who would have thought that?
At least from what I saw, which was only the second half.
Tomorrow I think the Netherlands will win, we gained a lot of confidence.
As long as it will not be decided by penalties....
As for the Czechs and the Danes, I think Denmark will win that match.
Between the two I see them as the better and more attractive team.

Whoops sorry Moony, in case you didn't know I struggle with the wonderful technology in the new forums, it was a really big achievement for me to write in coloured letters, sorry I got your countries colours wrong. The first time I tried to write my thread I got stuck entirely in white and couldn't change it - was very frustrating and I felt so old.

So to try again, amazing France been beaten by Greece , I knew I shouldn't have gone to the supermarket this evening I bet it was a really exciting match. I love it when a tournament is so unpredictable, anyone could win! Did you know that Arsene Wenger, the Aresenal manager named Greece as his dark horse(outside bet) team of the championship at the start of the competition?

Since Portugal won over Spain, they have becomed one of my new favorites. On the other hand, it would be ok if Holland won. So I think I'll take a neutral position in that match, and just enjoy it instead.

We must be prepared (and good portion of luck from the heavens would not be bad as well) at sunday. The czechs will probably be the biggest effort the danes will ever meet in this Championship. But if we beat them, I think our odds against Greece will be OK.
