Here is a picture of a choice breeding male, note branching at bottom, which males rarely do.This was an only seedling from a friend, fortunatly I have a mother clone from a different source, that is the same strain. Humbolt.

ok, so you would probably know this then...

If you have a plant, that is a f 1 hybrid, you should not breed this right? Then the offspring would not have "hybrid vigor", because they would be a f 2 hybrid, carrying the traits of both the male and female which is good, but not as strong or healthy as the orginal plants that were bred.
So if all the seeds we have are F 1 hybrid, we should not breed until we get a true strain.
the reason I am asking is b/c we have two excellent strains, a mostly sativa, and a dank indica, both with great qualities, one tastes fan-freakin-tastic, and the other lays you out, I wanted a combo of both.....

yes you will lose the f1 vigor, and have to do a lot of selective inbreeding, to seek desired traits among the offspring, then backcross a progeny (2nd gen inbred from your cross progeny)to the original parent with the desired pheno.

alright, I have to break out my botany book from college, there was a whole chapter in it on "hybrid vigor" and breeding and they even had examples on how to get true breeding stock, for tomatos of course.... I always remember the 4 square chart...
but I am sure this works for other plants as well. I may try backcrossing the f1 hybrid sativa with a true indica, like a kush, and see what the results are, if they are good, I might try to cross again with the new plant that results, again with the sativa, to bring out the more important traits, like taste.
Does it matter what plant you use to breed, should you use a true male to a hybrid female, or vice versa?

    NAMASTE

Is that the only way though to get the desired pheno traits???
And is that the only method for getting stable beans?????

As far as i know selective breeding and backcrossing are the best ways, the route entailed previously is probably about the easiest way, but as far as the only way, mean or geck could better answer that question, I came here to learn as well.

The hummer I wont have to stabalize, I have a hummer mom- so I can just produce some seed when i am ready to. I already have so many hybrids going i am confusing myself. I used to just mix my own seeds up and just pick out which are which, but with hybrids it gets outta control quick. L.O.L.

Now im keeping seperate batches of each hybrid variety i have, so I can plant all the seeds i have from one of them at a time. Then i won't get myself mixed up.

    I learn everyday, something ,somehow.

got some clones going now, so I may try to breed one or two of the ladies to a basic indica, a kush or something, no weird hybrid, and make my own.... now to think of a good name....

I know one day this will all be legal, with a licence in my state, so I am starting early to get the knowhow before there is a mad rush. I am learning a bunch on this board, remembering stuff from college botany classes, and from friends who have also chosen to forgo the annoyance of always bugging someone, or waiting for the stuff to cure.

its fryday, time to go home and roll up a fat dutchie joint. Happy smokin...[IMG]
