mine was just at my top lip.

And in 6 months, my front one which woulda been just at my top lip are now nearly at the bottom of my chin, so its not alot of growth for six months, but like everyone said they will shrink a bit :).

yea, i heard that the longer your hair is before you backcomb the tighter and thicker the dreads will be because more hair is being backcombed and bunched up making them tighter and thicker, can anyone vouche for this?

I have well quite short hair or they are like all the hair is the same long..at the top like until my ears so about 12cm..

I use rubberbands at the roots and tops:p couse im so scared that they wont dread up and an other thing is that I am afraid that they will be very thin.
The rubberband at the roots helps couse well its not too tight so hair can move and the hair had dreaded below the band so I think I will cut the rubberbands at the roots, but the ones at the top are for the hair not to get loose or well I hope they dread up easier.
So what do you think? is it good for me to just let the hair be so take all the band away and if they wont dread then just wait them to grow and dread up by their own?
Or then I should continue backcombing then like every time after a shower and so on?

Well, My hair was probably 4-5 inches long. When I finished backcombing them, they were about three inches and stuck straight up. I looked like a pineapple. If you're cool with that, then all is well.

Honeybunnyhippie, I sometimes put loose rubberbands on the roots to hold them together a bit, but I wouldn't really recommend putting them at the tip, just hold the tip of the root in one hand, mash it into the palm of your other, and rub away until it's all nubby and knotted up. Do that a lot and you'll have really nice tips after a while. And I wouldn't do any more backcombing, just a lot of rolling and playing with them. They'll do their own thing.
