Spitting on Vietnam Soldiers

Thank you for your side of the story. It is easy to get cought up in your own opinion. I would never have spit on a soldier- or anyone. I read something once about the enemy of the revolution being the government and not the soldier or something. I couldnt find the quote or I would have posted it.

Yes it was bad. Should we defile a whole group because there is bad within the group? Even if you do believe so does it make it right, to lower your standards of behavior since you can't elevate theirs? I was totally against the war, protested it and realize that there were many, many atrocities during that time but I don't believe that gives anyone the right to lump every Vietnam vet into the monster catagory or have spat on them.

I wasn't born when you were sent overseas - and I oppose deeply why you went, but I understand you had no choice and that you did what you had to do.

I am also sorry you had to deal with being spat on and ostracised for something that you had no control over - that even after coming home it stayed with you. Stabbed in the back by those that sent you over and then stabbed in the back by the civvies when you got home.

If you don't like the thread, the subject matter....start your own. Like yah said, you can't even be bothered to read it ffs....and maybe your post would make more sense with less drama and chaos, but it's not worth sorting out. You make blanket assumptions is mostly what I get....just because we all don't jump up and down ranting doesn't mean we do nothing to try to make the changes needed.

btw....dude! ummmm....in case you are too busy with the rant about us talking about past events....maybe you can read the forum you are in...flashbacks? It happened. It didn't happen frequently however. Homebudz was on the wrong end of it when he returned...I witnessed a friend pulling that bad behavior. I protested with him and I guess he thought that I would accept that poor behavior. It was the media making the most of isolated incidents (Imagine that!) And still yeah, it was alotta years ago and a good reason its posted here, rotf! VA mts always look beautiful but lately its only been two degrees cooler en hell. your a fool , first of all no one has to go anywhere if there drafted . one could avoid and refuse as hundred of thousands did here .....im sure in china they will shoot u but not here .....secondly not all who served were drafted ..

 

i was speaking in terms of the people who WERE drafted. and if they were drafted, they either had to go to war or go to jail/leave the united states forever. people started burning their draft cards but then that was made illegal so their wasnt much else they could do. avoiding and refusing wasnt an easy task by any means, and a lot of people couldnt do it. dont call me a fool, we're all friends here, stay nice you piece of shit

I went to boot camp (Marine Corps) but got sent back home after an ankle injury. I'm not going to re-enlist until after college so I won't have a chance to tell you guys what war is like with first hand experience... but if I ever saw anyone spit on a Marine, Soldier, Airman, or Seaman I'd beat that person to a bloody pulp. Sure, you have your freedom of speech. So do I. But you can't spit on someone, and if you spit on someone like that infront of me you'll have my fist in your face.

As for them raping people, torturing insurgents, etc? Most troops never partake in such activities.

Exactly. How many troops are 03 or 13(I think it's 13)? Even most 03 guys never really see any action. People have this misconception that most US troops are infantry. The Air Force, Navy, and Coast Guard don't even have regular infantry units... their fighters are specialized. Everyone else is support.

And those that do fight and kill people... they generally don't have time to torture or rape anyone that they kill. You know, running around and taking cover don't always let you stop to take off all your gear and rape someone. Getting shot at also tends to stop you from torturing people... the bullets flying right at you and all.
