Animated GIF/flash file - how to draw walking legs?

I'm not sure if this is the right forum, but it's the closest forum I can think of until someone starts a "How To Draw Cartoons Forum"

I'm trying to make a flash animation, and I need to animate someone walking. It's a very simple model, basically just a stick figure with an oval body and round head. In fact, the only thing I'm really animating is the legs. And that's where my problem lies. I'm terrible at animating walking legs.

I was wondering if anybody had any techniques or basic advice on drawing four or maybe five frames of static images which, when put together in a GIF file, will provide a decent leg animation. Any advice is good advice!
