That post about americas internet control

    I understand the reasoning for not allowing multiple posts however perhaps a degree of discression. I don't know if the post in womens issues was a mistake or some fairly odd decision but why close both? Especially as it was suggested that the thread should be moved to somewhere more sensible. After all the post in the science forum was not offensive, it was topical and as far as I can tell exactly the kind of thing it was set up to discuss.

    I think the control America retains over the net is rather worrying. But that said if any country was in their position would they give it up lightly? I imagine the internet has reached the size now that if America tried to take it down it could easily be kept going by other countries anyway.

    I'm not really up-to-date on my internetology, but can't other countries just create more root servers whether America likes it or not? I think Japan already has a couple. Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't America control the internet only because it has something like 11 of the 13 root servers?
